Any information I've found on the California Grey indicates it is a straight cross. Same with the California White.Michael, is it a straight cross? I thought it was more complex than that.

Good article, but an awful picture example of the breed. I don't know what that is, but it isn't a CA Grey
Nope...not a CG. CG are cuckoo... that bird is barred plus it is way to hefty looking. Now I am going to go read the article.Good article, but an awful picture example of the breed. I don't know what that is, but it isn't a CA Grey

What we talked about in the other thread would be a good update to this one. To others who've been staying with this thread, I was under the impression that what was originally used to establish this breed was still used to this day (the Barred Rock rooster x White Leghorn hen). Apparently this is an actual breed, not a titled hybrid of sorts. Bullitt and I chatted about this on another thread. So that may mean that rearing chicks from a good standard rooster and hen of this breed will produce the same offspring. If anyone can find more historical information on CA Grays, your contribution would be appreciated. You are right.
That is probably a Barred Plymouth Rock in the picture.

Lee was "the bad". Lol. He's actually very good with his hens, which is most important to me. He is aggressive to other humans though. Not too bad with me though. he appreciated the compliment. I picked him out of six cockerels I had.Hey, Lee Van Cleef was the "ugly" in The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Or was he the bad?
He's a good looking rooster.
