California Greys???

If you don't mind driving, I'd give you some. I have my eye on a few pullets with good structure, posture, feathering, and white ears. I'd have to take them and pen them with my cockerel for awhile to ensure fertile eggs. I'm happy with my choice of cockerels out of the 6 I had. It is hard to believe almost a year has passed.
haha anyone who wants to survive living in Lake County CAN'T mind driving. Thanks I look forward to making the trip.

I've got some chicks from a white leghorn Crossed to to my white rock that are white with one or two black "spots" would they be considered CA whites?

No. A California White is created by crossing a California Gray rooster with a While Leghorn hen.

Your chicks should become good layers, though. The eggs will probably be a very light brown.

I have a cockerel who came from a CA Grey pullet covered by a Delaware rooster. He is the only chick I got of that mix. At hatch he was jet black with a white dot on his head. I have a feeling that this hybrid will produce sex links and I am looking forward to finding that out. My next broody will get 6 or so eggs from my CG girl. The ones not fertilized by the Del will have been fertilized by my New Hampshire and those will be black sex links.

Thinking the pullets will be great egg layers and the boys will have nice meaty carcases. I will let you know how this first one turns out.

I have a local guy willing to take most of an order of 25 chicks from California Gray order from Privett. So now I'm serious. Looking for any updates concerning this breed to make a decision. Anything about Auto sexing?

Hey there farmhand! In general there is a very clear difference with the little girls being much darker from the get go. However a female impersonator may sneak into the crowd. If you wanted to be sure wait a few days/a week and the difference becomes more obvious. You can wing sex them too because they are so fast feathering and the boys grow taller than the girls pretty quickly.

These two are 3 weeks old the pullet is on the left the cockerel on the right.

He didn't get those legs and grow that tall overnight. I imagine that by 10 days the differences were obvious, But in most chicks they are obvious at hatch, @Michael Apple got a straight run I think and I believe he said that overall sexing was easy from the start.

Scroll down on this thread for a description of feather sexing https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/585211/revisiting-feather-sexing I haven't tried doing it but they are sexable that way too.

I am happy that you may be getting some and also that they other person may be too.

I am a California Grey Booster!!!

They are easy to color sex. The cockerels are lighter grey, and the pullets are dark charcoal grey. They will pile like Leghorns if sudden darkness happens to them. I recommend gradually weaning them off lamps. In Spring they were feathered enough to go in the grow-off pen at around 5 weeks. They have quite an appetite. That must be the Rock in them, haha.
