CALIFORNIA The Whole State thread

Oh I forgot RIR???? There was a young man at the Turlock Poultry show in March showing & selling RIR. I have his number in my cell phone. If you want to PM me. Also a chicken lovin' friend of mine in Ceres just won some Heritage RIR eggs she has to put in her incubator too.

Karen if they want to be added to the breeder list let me know.

Terrible headache today and a tragedy with one of my roos. I lost my main FBCM roo Harley. Karen he was the first one I got from you. My black BBS AM roo attacked him. I found him in a heap with his comb bleeding and the stupid roo came back at him while I was out there scooping him up. My Chicken Whisperer tried to help, but I brought him home and had him inside and I had to run to HD. When I got home he had died. Now I need another FBCM roo and another BBS AM roo, cause he's gonna be friggen gone! I don't need a mean roo around here. Kayla had finally gotten Harley to ride in the wagon and she's going to be so upset. She's always training the roos to ride in that thing. I'm just mad. Stupid mean bird! It's weird cause the BBS was younger and Harley wasn't old, so I don't know what the problem was, but the wrong one died. Figures I gave up the blue one and kept him. He wasn't mean before but since Blue's been gone he's taken over his attitude.

Sorry to hear about your rooster. I hatched 7 FBCM chicks from Linda Hammid three weeks ago. They are a mixture of Bev Davis and Wade Jean Hens with a Cottage Farms Rooster. I tried feather sexing and came up with 3 Cockerels and 4 Pullets. I can't wait to see what they are like.

My first roosters are 2 Red Star packing chicks, A SG Dorking and 3 Partridge Rocks. There names are Dinner 1 to 6. These are from the McMurray Chicks that had the terrible shipping tragedy where half of them died on each of two shipments.

The dorking Rooster is funny. They are in a chicken hutch, and I added a pen run yesterday. At night the Dorking was down at the bottom of the ramp making chirping noises and walking back and forth telling two Partridge Rock Roosters and PR pullet to get into the hutch. He is going on 8 weeks and they are 7 weeks old.

My sister sent me some cool pics that she got from someone. Just some cool random stuff from all over. I really liked this one so had to share. A little out of season, but sweet.

HOPE YOU GUYS CAN HELP!!

I need to explore other options for a place to keep my breeders as my contract with Sienna Ranch may be coming to a close.

I am able to pay for land that I can rent or lease. I need about 700 square feet (of course more is always better LOL) and there must be easy access to water.

Ideally someplace close to lafayette/walnut creek area, but I'm also open to other ideas.

I'm also considering a partnership with someone that lives a bit more remotely.

PM if you have any creative ideas! Please ask everyone you know. It's funny how these things happen, you never know where you can find the

greatest ideas!! Thanks everyone.... I'm excited about the next adventure!

Ron, congrats once again on the hatch. At least you got a pair. You should put a grow out pen out here for your cockerels... and mine

. My attempts to use the sheep pen was a fail. They could still jump the fence with both wings clipped. I'm out of money but need more coops/pens. Gotta sell some ewe lambs to earn enough for more.

Kim, sorry about Harley.

That's so cute that your granddaughter gets them to ride in a wagon.

Cheryl, do you have any pics of your breeding setup at Sienna Ranch? Why aren't they renewing your contract? So good to hear about your new birds, btw.

It's just a noise issue at the ranch, the coops are too close to the teaching areas there, we are exploring other areas at the ranch but this may just be a great opportunity to find something better. I'm very optimistic!!

Gosh Cheryl,............... what a challenge. I am so glad to see you are handling it so well. I may not have. I wish I weren't so far away. This could be a great opportunity for someone out there that is looking for a good start & a nice resource for good stock. Maybe a newcomer with land in your area will step up for the opportunity.

So funny. I read the thread a little while ago and had to answer some pms. The whole time I'm thinking "If Karen and Cheryl weren't so far from eachother I bet that could work." LOL

I'm looking forward to finding something with more space simple because I'm going to make sure I have a brooder room. One where I can't hear 23/7 peeping. It's to cold out and wet to get someone to figure out why I have no lights in my garage and so many outlets going out everywhere. Otherwise I have brooders still not set up out there and these noisy babies would not be driving me nuts. They have food, they have water, but just like the grown birds, they see me they go crazy.
