They're so adorable!
What a great story and honor to have them. They are just too cute! Are you going to breed any? Inquiring minds want to be on a list! I am sure I can find them elsewhere I just love the "heritage" of them.I really do like them. They are Bates line of HRIRs and the came from they St. Romain family in Louisiana. The line has been around four up to 90 years. Ron Fogel shipped the hatching eggs to me from his flock.
I made a video of them tonight. They are 4 days old!
I found this information about them:
This line came from a fellow named Ricky Bates who was killed in a accident a few years ago. He got his birds from a family in Louisiana named St. Romains and their son showed them for about ten years befor going off to college. This line is over 90 years old. When Ricky Bates passed, his son Jacob sold some of them to Ron Fogel

There is interest in these too, so I might try breeding the HRIRs too. I hope to breed two types but have to get things lined up with a place to keep the roos or a breeding pen.
You are on my list for these and the Blue Egg Layers now!
YAY!! We have video!! Love when that happens.
I caught one! Those darn feral roos have been driving me crazy. I have some Game hens that just can't be cooped much. Today I was moving birds, giving my fluffiest butts a brazilian and removing spurs. One of the roos was hanging out when my girls climbed up by the rabbits to roost. I almost chased him off, but thought I'd see if maybe he'd hang. After dark I went out with a flashlight and sure enough. That sucker was cozied up with one of my Game hens! The light made him a little nervous, so I came back in the house. A little while later I went out without a light and went to about the spot I thought he was. Then I saw him and grabbed him. He made sooooooo much noise, I brought him in the house to calm him down. I saw lights going on on houses and I was worried someone would complain or think I was killing him. I've thought about it, but those darn birds have knocked over feed buckets, mounted my hens, torn things open, bloodied up my roos through wire on their pens. They have made me so mad the past few months I decided to remove his spurs after I calmed him down. I have battery cages that I'm turning into rabbit cages, so he's in one. One down and at least 4 to go! There was a really beautiful one that was around, but haven't seen him in weeks. I swear if I catch that one I'm keeping him. This one and the other 4?? Monday is auction day. Gotta get some of my feed money back.
That sucker has been crowing since 3am. I'm thinking maybe after I wrap and ship some eggs off I might take him to a feed store. My backyard has been loud for hours and I don't want to get into trouble for all this noise.Good job catching the Rogue Roo!![]()

Not sure of the feed store wolftracks uses, but I take mine (only the ones I can't sell or rehome) to Colliers Feed in Salinas. They almost always sell within a day or two3am is just wrong. Silly question, but what happens to the roos that go to feed stores???
