Same old, only add bringing Christmas to a retail store....last Sunday my daughter and I went in and tore the place up to bring it up to par. and today was my first day off since! My daughter worked with me since she was 16...then got married and "knocked up" as we like to say! LOL so she hasn't worked for me in 4 years and the car accident that screwed up my back was 5 days after she gave birth to her first (her last day of work), the next day our town caught on fire, two days later we found out my 40 yr old brother's cancer was terminal (I won't go into the details of a caradid burst, but im glad i was there to help him)....and I'm waiting for the surgeon to call...but I did build a beautiful rustic bar for my wine and brew bar too, while I've been waiting (now i want to build something more). I hope to get surgery scheduled Monday, but otherwise, I see my family doc tomorrow because I've lost 20lbs in the last 6 months without trying but I needed it, so she's the only one worried... wow, spilling my guts tonight! Anyway, thanks for asking...things are not so good, I'm thankful for BYC!

Dang! We need to get together and compare notes. No back surgery here though. Knock on wood. And spill away. You need to do it sometimes. I do it too much these days, but I used to hold things in till I had strokes, so now I blurt it all out. Besides, you're with family here...

I couldn't have said it better myself!

I tell my Hubby that whining makes me feel better and besides, I'm sooo good at it! Luckily he just laughs when I say this. When he starts agreeing with me while he rolls his eyes I'll know I've whined a bit too often.

Anyway with what you have been through I think you have earned it! I mean, oh my gosh! How much can one person be expected to handle in such a short amount of time? I sure hope you get scheduled for the surgery soon and that you have a super fast and remarkable recovery!!!

You mean MY roo. I just came in from checking on him. LOL

He is amazing. ummm I know what's going on with about 50% of the birds all these guys have, but they are all helpful and the birds! OMG!! These are some awesome birds.

I think my bird's name is going to be Galahad. It will probably change tomorrow. He's such a pretty guy. I have 3 or 4 pullets that are a Marans x Game and they turned out more Gamey with some leg feathering, but they are gorgeous. They all went crazy about the one I took down there and they were shocked when they saw her shanks. I told the guy what I wanted to do and he lifted an eye brow and rubbed his chin and said "I told you you could have that rooster. When can you take him?" I said in a couple of days and the next thing I knew he was shoved under my arm and I carried him and my pullet home. He is hoping that my pullet will pass on her color to hens and he's excited to see what the roosters look like, so I'm going to give him a few once my girl starts laying and I hatch some out. This roo is a lot of what I wanted to breed for. LONG tail and dark skin. The fighting ones they seem to like white legs, mine will only be for beauty. LOL

Two of the guys down there yelled that they had offered money for him, but I just smiled and said "Ya but he's gonna be a lover, not a fighter." My neighbor laughed at them and they all started laughing to. My roo has a lot of the Sumatra showing, but has a big comb. Since he's nothing that can be shown, the comb stays. I'm really excited about trying this out. I've been wanting to do it for 3 years and my work just got cut in half, so I'm happy.

OK I had a day that was mostly unplanned and got nothing done around here, so tomorrow I really have to kick butt. But I have an idea and wanted to run it past those of you in this thread. If I need to I'll start one just for my question.

I use a flashlight out back at night. My garage now has only power for my washer. Oh joy. Anyway, not lights out back. So when I got out late and check the birds I've been known to shine that stupid little maglite in just the right place to get almost every roo going. Do any of you think, that if I find a way to hook up one light in like the center of my yard, that it would be enough to trick my girls into laying? I want some birds I can show and I also need to hatch and sell some to help pay my feed bills, so after they finish moulting I'm really thinking I want lights this year. Never used them at this house, but all of my chickens and guineas had lights at my last house. Just trying to come up with an idea where the lights are having to be connected to to many pens.

btw I also checked on my hen and she's not looking as tired as she was. Here's hoping.

You want warm, don't come to the valley. I'm freezing right now. I don't have a rabbit barn and kind of worried about my Lionheads and my quail.

And everyone is welcome. I'll even add you to the first post.

Yea it's about 21 degrees here to the north of Reno right now. Not so bad if you're dressed for it til the wind kicks up. brrrrrrrrrr Still not like Michigan! Actually, I have a friend that lives there and she said it's not too bad yet but she can tell winter is definitely on it's way.

Kim, I have had 2 rabbits give birth here in Turlock (similar temp as you) in the last week. All 10 of the babies and there moms are doing fine outside. They are in wire cages with breeder boxes. Also Im running a floodlite on my chicken pens that Ive pluggged in to a timer on the extention cord from my Garage. Its working for me. And the rooster man sounds like he is good to know.

Yeah I hate to say it but I'll take the colder temps over Tully fog anyday. That thick soup scared the begeebers out of me!!! I used to have to be to work at 6 am and there were several times I had to drive with my door open so I could see if I was still in my lane! You can't read the road signs even when they are lit til you are right on top of them! OMG! Too many narrow escapes and pile ups in that stuff!!!

And, yes Kim, I mean your roo! I just thought he may have taken pics at some point before he gave him to you.
