This is good information and really speaks for any breed you choose. You have to learn about each line, what they bring to the table and if they're a good match.

I have a substantial contract that each potential owner has to sign before taking the puppy and I have both turned people downed because I didn't feel like a Cocker was a good choice for them or after they questioned my contract. An important part in my contract is that they will always return the dog to me if it doesn't work out and they will never end up in the pound. If they need to find the dog another home I have to approve that home and they sign a contract with me with the same stipulations. If they don't have a family picked out, the dog comes home with me and I find a new home. I explain that I am responsible for EVERY dog I breed for it's entire life. I match each pup with the prospective owner and people who want a dog from me know that's how we do it and because of all this, they choose our dogs.

You know there is a difference between a backyard breeder, that has negative connotations because they breed anything they have for the money, no testing, no health consideration and they usually breed multiple breeds. A Hobby breeder on the other hand is someone who is dedicated to the preservation of a particular breed of dog, they do the proper testing and are responsible breeders whether they breed for the show ring or not. They're concerned with health, temperament, and confirmation. Shooting for as close to standard while preserving health and temperament is always my goal.

Sunny, you will be a hobby breeder and if you stick to these high standards you will have people wait for years to get a puppy from you and the litter will be sold before they're whelped!

And BTW $1500 is not high to pay for a good quality dog. The least amount that I've sold a dog for in the last 10 years was $800 but most commonly sold for $1000-$1200

Okay I took the pictures of the panels we are making & here they are.

My son Aaron is 5'10" & my grandson is 2 years old......LOL

No these two dogs are not low quality shepherds. I am doing a ton of research that's why Kim has been helping me with this. The point she brought up was about my female dog who was not cheap but also didn't cost $25,000. However she is puny compared to my boy from german working lines that has his papers from Germany. She is super sweet but she doesn't have the fierce protective drive that my boy has. Everything folks have told me about the problems with american dogs vs german bred is pretty evident in this girl. The boy is fiercely protective but is a mellow love around kids and us. He is also great with folks who eneter the yard with us but once a friend stepped out to meet him before I stepped out and the reaction was completely different! This is the type of shepherd I grew up with. This female is nothing like the shepherds I owned as a kid.

As for a ton of extra shepherds running around and sitting in rescues. That just isn't the case here in Nevada. Trust me I've spent the last year trying to find a quality GSD that needed a good home and the ones that were available for adoption were not at all what I was looking for! Not sure what type of dogs you thought I had but these 2 are both exceptional dogs compared to what I saw available in shelters or rescues around here. I learned very quickly that these bargain dogs available for a song were not a bargain at all. Too bad cause I've had some sweet dogs from rescues but I really wanted a true GSD like I had grown up with.

The issue now is not if these are quality dogs, the issue is if the quality of the female is high enough? She has a lot of the negative issues that folks talk about with American dogs. Although she is an AKC registered dog she doesn't even look like the GSDs I'm used to. My question to Kim was do I really need to spend $25,000 or, if this girl is not up to par can I spend $1,500-2,500 instead (course I'll have to save for a while to afford that as well). I was never considering breeding the pair if they did not measure up to a professional's critique. Kim was a professional breeder and Pam also. I asked for their help. That is why they are advising me. I have no intention of breeding them if the answer is "No".

But don't worry capayvalleychick. I'm not mad. After seeing, over the last 6 years, what is being turned out by so called breeders, I completely understand your concern. Just trying to clarify that I am much more interested in breeding a working line of GSDs vs an SQ line. This is why Kim R. is questioning my using this female. I'm ok with the verdict which ever way it goes.

I was wondering if the cute little blond kid was the one you were talking about being such a great worker!

I'll tell you what he is sure going to be. He soooooooooooooo loves being outside & loves the chickens. We already try to include him in doing chores & helping us whenever possible. It makes him feel like such a "Big boy".........LOL He has a fit when it's time to go in the house.

LOL! My 2 oldest granddaughters are the same way. I keep teasing our kids that I'm turning them into farmers.

I so love that Coy loves the animals & loves to be outside working with us. We are so lucky to have them out here with us where we get to share their lives everyday. He has "no fear". His 10 year old sister on the other hand is scared of her own chickens & heaven forbid if she gets aa little poop on her............LOL. She is such a dear but just NOT into the chickens...........I love that we all have the oportunity to make different choices for ourselves.

I'm not from Cali, but I do dog rescue via facebook and this just popped up from one of the high kill shelters. If anyone is in or near the area could you save this guy? Here is all the information and PLEASE keep me posted.

POOR WELLINGTON HAS BEEN AT DEVORE FOR 7 WEEKS! ALL THE OTHER CHICKENS WERE ADOPTED/RESCUED, BUT WELLINGTON IS STILL WAITING FOR HIS ESCAPE! CHICKENS (THE SHELTER LABELED HIM GAMEFOWL - I'M NOT SURE IF THERE'S A DIFFERENCE) DON'T HAVE THE SAME URGENCY AS DOGS AND CATS, BUT WELLINGTON NEEDS A HOME NONETHELESS. IS ANYONE IN ABLE TO SAVE THIS GUY? WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO FREE HIM AFTER SUCH A LONG TIME IN THE SHELTER?

Wellington - ID#A506448
This guy has been there too long - please save him!
I am a male, tricolor Gamefowl.

The shelter staff think I am about 2 years and 1 month old.

I have been at the shelter since Sep 27, 2011.
