call duck with vent issue **pic included**

Hi,

Can anyone give me some advice please? I bought a call duck last week from a poultry farm. Having got her home I noticed she seems to be stooping quite a bit like she's got something on her back end. I left her to settle in for a couple of days, picked her up & saw her vent looks like the pic below. I havent got a clue what this is, she doesnt seem to be in any pain (at least I dont think so) and she is eating, drinking & pooping - although I cant see where from! I called the farmer yesterday & he didnt really want to know. He just said as long as shes eating to let her be, but i'm worried sick.

I've tried soaking her in warm water for the last 3 days & putting honey on it as i've read on the net, but it doesnt seem to be doing anything. What should I do?

I have one duck with a vent problem, but it doesn't look like that. It has something to do with her reproductive system. I have had her on antibiotics off and on and I put Silvadene lotion on her vent area. (they use it for burns - have to have a prescription here) I have also used bag balm. My duck has this hard crust like stuff that forms from discharge from the vent area. Vets have had a hard time figuring it out. She does better when she is not laying eggs and I have to keep her away from the drake. Good luck I hope you are able to figure it out. Some of the things that were suggested to me as possible problems were gleet, parasites, allergies to barley, and a reproductive infection.... I changed her diet, put her on antibiotics, treated her for parasites with no relief... the only real relief comes when she quits laying... but Silvadene and bag balm help out.. and warm baths to soak the scab like stuff off.

Is she laying at all? could it be a small prolaspe, i don't know because it's very hard to see it. Maybe turn her on her back and get a better pic in the light. I adopted a young bantam cochin that has vent gleet and have been treating her with monostat and spraying her outside area with veterycin. Like someone said letting her soak in some nice warm water may help.

I feel Miss Lydia has a good approach.

Regular warm baths, monostat for possible fungal infection, veterycin to knock back bacteria. I would also get her on poultry vitamins electrolytes and probiotics. Honey can help, too. There are a number of things that might help.

It may have started as a small prolapse and become infected with bacteria, fungi, or both.

You just bought her and she was that way when you picked her up. Make the seller take her back and give you a refund or a replacement.

Thanks for the advice all. I am going to separate her from the other ducks today so I can keep a closer eye on her. I've bought some live yogurt, apple sauce, cider vintages, iodine and some athletes foot treatment to get her through the weekend. Am thinking now definateley a vet visit for something strong. I'll try and take a better pic. She's not laying at the moment, but scared for her if she tries to. I can't even see a hole bless her.

Oregon blues.. I called the breeder he agreed a refund but said he wouldn't treat her as it wasn't in his interests to. I don't think I can drive her back there to be killed
