She told me on the Orpington Group they were massacred by wild dogs

I personally got her email about her birds and that is what I got from her. No feathers or blood was anywhere on her property because wild dogs would have really have taken almost all of 100 of her birds. So something was up and she had a client that harassed her until the day the birds were stolen and the clients phone was disconnected. So its something to ponder about.

Unless otherwise if the story has changed if she did come across with her dead birds that she found elsewhere, I have not gotten her recent updated email about it of her findings IF she did found them dead. Sometimes investigations would turned out stolen birds and find later, the birds were all killed, then thats different.

Its bad enough at any case!

Christina,
Robin is correct. I didn't go into detail with anyone concerning the loss of my flock...until just now recently.
It was much easier to tell people that they were taken by predators. Besides, it wasn't really anyone's business. There are a few people who were present, and are aware of what transpired....but they're respecting my wishes, and my privacy. I chose to make it public on the Poultry Connection since people seem to have difficulty believing that someone would go to all that trouble to steel another person's flock.

Went to work on a Monday with 100-200 birds. Came home seven hours later to 17 assorted bantams. Someone is enjoying all of my ducks, and most of my chickens. There is a suspect, but I'll not go into detail about that.

Fortunately, I had eggs in the incubator for the Orps and I may recover. The ducks are gone. What eggs I could find were not pure as I had already broken down the breeding pens.

Total monetary loss: Somewhere in the range of $20, 000-$25,000.00 Not including potential earnings.

So, if you see some nice blue/black orps suddenly appear......ask a few questions.

That is what I read in one of her replies, too, Chris. Killed by predators.

Im sorry you lost them and yes if they any do appear I know what to expect in your line. I have some nice birds from you. I hope you catch the culprits. Just sad someone goes to the extreme to steal someones birds.

Theft is awful.

I am sorry these things are happening and it is a horrible thing to think of how vulnerable our flocks are while we cant be home, whether we be at work, or the feedstore, or whatever. I've been burglarized in town, and it feels horrible.
I am installing cameras in the pet area so I can at least see the culprits (I'm watching for predators, two or four legged). I will be taping the area when I am not home also. Therer are locks on my gates whenever I leave the area. I live 14 miles from town and dont have anyone up to my home but people I know.
I've seen ads on Craigslist seeking birds, and the prospective buyer has been so bold as to ask for your name, home address, and phone number!! Dont fall for it. There are just plain rotten people out there, waiting to take advantage of the the unprotected.

I Hope these cases come to a happy resolution.

I read the following two posts from you . Both are contradicting what you just posted. No wonder people are confused. Why do you keep making up stories about what happened to your birds? Thanks for the plug Don. To all my freinds out there, who have heard the rumors of my flock disbursal, I did indeed disburse most of my flock. Not by choice, but by necessity. I did keep a core breeder flock of about 25 birds, but that was wiped out last Monday by a pack of wild dogs. I lost all ducks, geese, and large fowl. Currently, I've a grow out pen with six birds, and a brooder with about a dozen, so I hope that all is not lost. I can only hope that the babes make it, and if so....I'll have stock again in the Spring. Keep your fingers crossed. Angela OrpingtonGroup] Re: New to group. Looking for stock!
I'm not sure what I have yet, but of the older birds.....believe or not, no cockerels. There may be a splash in the younger group, but they're to young to be sure. I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks for the offer! I've actually had three odd drakes re-appear. Seems they were hiding out, waiting for the dust to clear. A couple Ameraucana hens...and a bunch of bantams survived, along with one lone guinea. It's soooooo quiet without the ducks and geese. Anyway, with a few prayers, and a little luck.....I should have a core flock in a couple months. At least my lines are not lost. There are a couple of you folks out there that have them, if I can't recover. I'm optimistic.... Angela

That's a fair question, so I'll give you an answer....even though it's not really your business (whomever you are).

I'm constantly receiving e-mails, phone calls, etc. from people wanting to buy birds, eggs, whatever.

Earlier this year, I had made a decision to quit breeding a few breeds. At that point, I let a few select people know that certain birds were up for grabs...so to say. My Chinas, Cayugas, Saxonies, Embdens, and Pilgrims were re-homed to other breeders who specialized in those breeds, or who wanted a start. I chose to keep the Orps, Ameraucanas, Indian Runners, Khaki Campbells, Welsh Harlequins and Crele OEG. Those were the birds that I started with, and the ones that I chose to keep.....even though I had people pressuring me for them also.

About two weeks after I re-homed the chosen few, I came home from work on a Monday and found the rest of my large fowl and ducks gone. There was NO carnage, no breaks in the fencing, and absolutely no trace. I just sat down and cried. A few days later, three drakes reappeared. Don't know where they came from or where they were.

Dumbfounded, I assumed it was some sort of predation. It was a couple days later that it was proven to me by a few friends, that it was a two legged predator. I simply did not believe it. Why would someone go to all that trouble for a few birds? Once we put the dollar figures to it, it became apparent.

Bottom line, it's easier to tell people that the dogs ate them. It keeps the questions to a minimum. Besides, would you want the world to know that someone walked on to your farm and robbed you blind while you were at work? Have you ever been burglarized? It's violating!!!! It's embarrassing, and a lot of other things. And, how serious do you think that a small town PD takes chicken thieving?

It's just freaking easier to tell everyone that the dogs ate em. But, I suggest that you bump up your own personal security, lest it happen to you. I lost 10 years of selective breeding for all intents and purposes. Feel free to gloat, but remember....what goes around, comes around.

Good luck to you!
