Everyone is welcome! This thread is to help me learn more about call ducks so if you have any answers to the questions below then please answer them!
  1. Are they actually louder than other ducks? (my flock of seven runners is quite loud already)
  2. How much space do they need?
  3. Can I still free range them even though they are bantams?
  4. What is the male/female ratio?
  5. Why are they so cute?😃

I only have a male and he is definitely not louder than my female swedish blue duckies, and I free range I'm I just trim his wings back. They will stay with their flock after they get acquainted. Usually 3 to 4 females. if you get a male the quack is so cute! I fell in love with our as soon as we picked him up!!! I hope you get some! If you do share!

I only have calls so not sure about noise, I've heard they are noisier.
I keep pairs and trios in a 2 foot by 6 foot long pen with a utility tub for a pond. You can free range but predators can be a real problem. Mine are too expensive to risk it for me.
The short wide bill and head shape of good quality calls ducks is what makes them so cute.

@Quiggy
And anyone else that has call ducks!

1. Yes, female Calls are loud, and actually are known as the loudest domestic duck. That said, if noise is a concern you should either opt for an all male flock, or look into a quieter breed.

2. Call's tend to do better in smaller areas then most breeds, I can't comment on what specific size's they will do well at, since I free-range them, which follows up to your other question. They can free-range, I do, just expect losses occasionally. If you can't deal with that, consider penning them up.

4. There's no set male to female ratio as each birds personality, and you're setup plays major roles on how many you can keep, as a general rule, unless you're keeping pairs or trios. One drake per four/five females.

5. Short bills, stocky necks and bodies, chubby cheeks, and beady little eyes.

How much space do they have to sleep or are they free range at night also?
