Call eggs approaching lockdown

View attachment 1065748 Little Schubert is here! Brooder is set up but I'll leave her be until she's fluffy. Hoping her siblings will soon follow suit! My first hatched egg, ever!!

Congrats!!! :love

Thanks! She's a cutie.

I removed her to finish drying and re-positioned the other eggs. Of the remaining 4, one has now externally pipped. I quickly candled the others (a few seconds each) because a few are presenting a little oddly and I wanted to check on things. In one egg, you can clearly see a yellow orb through the air cell, and movement of the baby. I find this a little weird -- since I can see its yolk, does this mean this particular duckling may be malpositioned?

Can you get a pic of that? Are you certain it is yolk sac or could it be yellow or partially yellow duckling?

Ok, the first few are of the same egg. Sorry for the quality but you can make out the yellowish round orb sorta sticking into the air cell.

The next pic is another egg that is weird. It's developed these dark spots within the last day, dark enough that you can see them through the shell. Ideas? I'm not sure if either are still moving. Should I gently try to intervene? Another egg has now pipped

but these two aren't doing anything.

Ok, update. I decided to chisel a small hole into the air cell portion of each egg above. Both were dead. The blood spot/black spot egg looked like it was just about to peck through the egg shell. It had broken through the membrane and was in good position...but I think it ruptured a vessel. The weird yellow orb one was malpositioned, and that yellow shadow was indeed its yolk sack.

Sad, but the two remaining eggs in the bator are peeping at each other right now, and Schubert is sleeping under the EcoGlow in the brooder. That will be 3 hatched out of 12...not great, but these are shipped Call duck eggs and I'm a first time hatcher, so the odds were stacked to begin with. ;)

Don't feel bad. . I only got three out of 12 on my first hatch and mine were hatched by a brood y mom. Second hatch I got five out of ten eggs that were viable to start with. Five just up and died and had those spots like yours.

Yeah...I wasn't expecting much, throughout the whole thing I knew that if I at least got two it would be awesome since they'd have each other. A trio sounds just as good as long as they all accept each other.

The bigger of the two incubator eggs is fierce...I swear he'll bust out tonight. Super loud. Didn't even rest between zipping and the first pip that happened this morning. It's full of the fury!!
