call me crazy...just put day old chicks under a non-broody

I have a 10 week old mothering a 4 week old. Put's her wings out like she's a momma and everything . I say anything is possible.

ok, so it wasn't horrible but it didn't work.

she kept them all night but this morning as dawn broke, i put water next to her and she jumped out of the nest box and just watched them get cold and peep piteously. just to make sure, i put a couple next to her and she did NOT peckthem but also didn't tuck them under liek a broody would have.

had it been summer i'd have just stood and watched for another hour or so, because my last adoptive broody BJ did take some time to "warm up" to the day olds i put under her, but with the temp at 32 or so i just couldn't leave them peeping in that cold coop. i gave it five minutes and then scooped them up and brought them back to the most reliable broody i know--me, my heat lamp, and a big aquarium.

Yah, I heard they gotta have the hormones or it just doesn't seem to work....
