(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I am new to chickens however my husband and his family are not! We got our first batch of baby chicks in March 2023 (13 chicks). We raised them and added them to our chicken space and we were given 13 more baby chicks. We are set to lay our first eggs in August.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? We have 26 total chickens now.
(3) What breeds do you have? We have a mixture of breeds some are Prairie Bluebell Egger, ISA Brown, Barred Plymouth Rock, and then we have a mixture of others.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? My favorite aspect is caring for them and watching them. I love watching our daughters (ages 3 and 1) learn how to care for them and raise them.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? We have a very large garden. We also have a large berry patch. I have two small children. We love to be out in nature. I also like to exercise and read.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. I am a stay at home mom right now. I am an elementary teacher. My husband is a foot and ankle doctor. We have two daughters 3 year old and a 1 year old. We have a large Newfypoo and a small maltipoo. We have a barn cat. We also have a fish and a snail.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I would love to have some of my questions answered and hear about other peoples experiences!
