calling all home schoolers

We home school... Here mom is the teacher and principal and dad when he's home is the class clown and disrupts our class...

Unfortunately he likes to think he's the principal and won't listen to my disipline...

So class is scheduled during daddy's work time...

We love it!

Is that thread still active? I wanted to post on it, but wrote a long post only to get a message that the thread was outdated.

I did both, homeschooling and public schooling, and am now a public school teacher. I can advocate for both sides. Have a great time home schooling! It's fantastic!

This is going to sound like a strange question.. cause I know nothing about home schooling but my husband and I are running out of options for our son who seems to be slipping through the cracks of our school system... How do you each a subject you have little knowledge of? For instance I am not very good at math... how do you compensate for that? Sorry if this is a noob question.. I'm very curious about it...

You dont have to know all about it to teach it. You need to pick a good curriculum or book, especially for math, and you will learn along with the kiddos. All you need is a brain and to be able to read!

I also knew homeschoolers who compensated by pooling their efforts, and having math at one house, science at another. I guess they called it a field trip. But yes, get a really good curriculum/textbook.

edited to say, good luck conroy. That's exactly why I home schooled my youngest son. It was a great choice for him.

Homeschooling in SEMO. Math isn't my best subject, so for that one I always bought the teacher's manual for back up.

Future homeschoolers here in Oregon!

Homeschooling in Michigan and loving it! I am learning so much myself this time around. Not sure if I missed it when I was in school or if it wasn't taught.

You can do it! Everyone thinks its such a big thing when young ones learn to read, but it was easy for us. My DD just turned four and we have been working on it off and on for about 8 months. She loves it! We use "how to teach your child to read in 100 easy lessons" It is soo cute.
