I used to have a Maine Coon x Himalayan. His coat was a nightmare and a half every summer. Agree w/ the lion cut, it looks cute and after the humiliation wore off a week later, he clearly felt better.
Better to have a cat groomer do it, though, their skin is really thin and sensitive--it's like trying to shave a two-inch-thick cashmere sweater off of wet lasagna noodles. Vet can also do it, and it will last all summer.
