Dealers charge about 20.00 more per hour, but a particular model of car tends to have the same problems. So when you take your Focus to a Ford dealer the technician has probably seen the problem before and knows the fix. The diagnostic machines are very helpful but they just indicate where the problem lies. Not what is causing the problem. Plus the dealer has the latest software and they hold it a couple years before they let the independents buy it. Dealers are great for diagnostic. Most anybody can turn a wrench and replace a part.
