These are the two roos that I am using in my breeding pen. Both are the same age (9 months) from the same hatch, yet they are so different. One of them is "normal looking, and the other is very dark mahogany and has a really dazzling pattern and a lot of spangling. I'm really curious as to how he will look when he's older and fully developed.

thank you! I believe its kind of hard "not" to hatch Adorable baby chicks...unless they are Turkens lol

Thanks, and I really didn't notice much of a difference in the chicks until they began to feather out. That pretty roo had much darker mahogany colored feathers, and excessive black hackles right from the get go.

My chicks look very similar to yours when they are young. I've been hatching out a few more of the "dark ones" ever since I started using the darker roo in my breeding pen.

I think you will really enjoy watching your chicks develop, and especially the way that Millies bond to humans. best of luck with your flock.

As long as we're all sharing pics, thought I'd post a pic of the pair that I stupidly sold....and they day they went to their new home, I put a dozen of their eggs in the bator, and ended up with only one chick...but at least the lady I sold them to said she'd give me some hatching eggs from them in the spring! Their one baby is gorgeous though...only 6 weeks old and her spangles are starting to show up!

As long as we're all sharing pics, thought I'd post a pic of the pair that I stupidly sold....and they day they went to their new home, I put a dozen of their eggs in the bator, and ended up with only one chick...but at least the lady I sold them to said she'd give me some hatching eggs from them in the spring! Their one baby is gorgeous though...only 6 weeks old and her spangles are starting to show up!

aww why did you sell them???? The roo in your pic has VERY nice chest coloring. How old are they in that picture??​

Well, I sold them about a week before my son decided that he was going to do 4H, (which immediately changed our plans of what we were doing with our chickens)...I hadn't been doing anything with their eggs, just giving them away, because at the time our flock was strictly for laying (these guys were given to me by someone who lived in town). Since we have done lots of expansion since 4H started, we have quadrupled our number of birds, and need the bantys for showing. But at least I know they went to a show home, and that I have access to hatching eggs!

Oh, and they are about 15 months in that pic...both of them were still developing color...

One of mine went broody this spring. My trio is a year old as of April 1st. We hatced out 9 out of 13 in the incubator. (Then we had some major issues with the neighbor's starving cat and now we have 3 chicks.

) The chicks are 2 months old and have started getting spots. Mine wont be fully spotted until they are 6 months old. I also want to say that if you plan to cross the Mille roo with a large hen, do NOT expect fertile eggs. My rooster has access to 17 standard hens and doesn't fertilize a single one. He is too small. Here are a few pics of mine.

My millie boy is an over-acheiver, and actually does fertilize the EE's eggs. But they aren't viable. They get to about 2 weeks and then poop out on us. Same way with the BO's we had. And he didn't even use a ladder LOL.

I don't have the porcelain roo yet, but have access to one if I want him. Right now I have a lavender blue quad & a mille fleur quad. And I'm dreaming of designer d'Uccles now!
