Calling all New Brinsea Owners - PRIZES - March Hatch-a-long

Candled my eggs this morning and I'm only on day 4 but 3 of my frizzles have veins and both of my blue andulsians do too. Most of the eggs though are too dark for my little penlight to shine through very well so I guess I better go buy a better one. My EE egg I can't see nothing! Its like I don't even have it on.

Threw some Coturnix in my Mini on Sunday (7 of them) and now that I have 3 more girls at laying eggs I hope to have a couple dozen to put in my Eco 20 on Sunday to go in with my chicken eggs. That way when its time for the second batch of Coturnix to go into lockdown my first batch in the mini will be done and I'll move the second batch into it so my chicken chicks don't squash them in the Eco 20.

See, I do have a plan, no matter what the hubby says!

What type of hygrometer is everyone using in the 20 ECO? There's not enough room inside to put one, so I want to use one with a probe. Which is the best type to buy? Hubby is going to go by Petsmart this evening on his way home to see what they have in the reptile section.

Sorry Quiltnchick, I can't advise on the hygrometer! I'm using a Mini Advance and I purchased a hygrometer from the reptile section at PetSmart. I'm rarely using it in the bator this time around as I seem to be doing a dry hatch. My house humidity is around 60-65% so I really don't need to add water to the bator. I go into lockdown tomorrow and will at last be adding water to both wells. Humidity stays up nicely during lockdown.

Set my brooder up last night, have chick starter and am good to go!

Set some more eggs yesterday. They wont hatch in March, though.

The first batch is doing good, due March 23rd.

Candled with my new flashlight last night. Was an Amazon purchase and is LED w/200 Lumes. There was movement in the eggs

The only ones I've seen at my local WM only have probes for the thermometer. Maybe I'll check again, and also look in the pet section to see if they have anything for reptiles. Thanks!

I set my first batch ever in my Eco 20 last night. They should hatch on or around the 29th. Is that cutting it too close to enter the contest?

I set 8 Blue Ameraucanas, "cree lines"
2 - 1st generation Olive eggers "Blue Copper Marans Hen / Blue Ameraucana Cock."
and 2 - 2nd generation Olive eggers. "Olive egger Hen / Blue Ameraucana Cock."

I don't plan on candleing until day 7 or 8, and then again right before lock down.

Ok complete newby question here, if I set them last night 3-8-2011 at 11PM, when would lockdown begin? The night of the 27th?

Anyways! Wish me luck, as Ive never used an incubator before, and I sincerly hope I do not mess it up!
