As your punishment for winning, you can't compete in the April hatchalong! Standard was set in Feb when LeahThor won the brooder.....

Thank you! Well it's had its ups and downs. The fertility wasn't great, but I couldn't keep the rooster any longer (neighbors on both sides were voicing concerns). I hatched out 3 chicks yesterday and two more are due in a few days. BUT I lost two of the babies today (bad call on my part to try and let a broody raise them. It was awful. Lesson learned the hard way.)
I'm hoping the remianing 7 eggs in the 2nd bator are fertile, but it's day 4 and I see nothing (white eggs, so it's obvious). I will wait for my new Ovascope to arrive before I discard any though; it shipped today!

LOL! I can live with that. My husband JUST finished my new 8' x 8' ccop and it's FULL already, so I really need to unplug the bator after this hatch!!!

It was my idea to build a bigger coop (bigger than our 4x6 that we ordered from Horizon Structures 2 years ago) but I wanted to do it with re-purposed materials, etc. We started off that way, but I think my husband has watched a few too many episodes of "This Old House" and his design ideas were like a runaway train. I had NO intention of trying to try to stop that train either! He really wanted to do the cedar shingles. Half way through shingling he finally took my advice and bought an air compressor and a nail gun! The poor chickens were already in the coop and I'm certain they did not appreciate the building process.

He started building the floor and walls in the garage in the bitterly cold temperatures this winter and then continued building it outside in unreasonably cold temperatures and high winds. I thought I was going to have a heart attack when I saw the ladder propped up on a snow and ice bank!!

I think he really had a lot of fun. I started keeping receipts early on in the project, but I stopped asking for them or he stopped giving them to me at some point. LOL!

I can't wait until the weather warms up and I can be out there more often appreciating it!

Nope. Gotta move to the lone star state to get that.It does get hotter than you know what down here. But little babies lay alot of eggs. I've been getting alot of eggs through the winter . I like Texas.
