CALLING ALL SAN DIEGANS! Please invest a few seconds to read this!

Aww shooot! I'm gonna be at the Comic Con all weekend :\\ poot... Hmm.. anway I have my decibel meter now and did a few reading on my own chickens.... it's frikin hilarious because they aren't even loud at all! Even the mean neighbor to my Sister's Right side seems to be totally cool with everything. No stinky smells or whatever, anyway I gotta hustle and get something put together as far as a list of participants, I almost have my spread-sheet ready but seriously this doesn't seem like it would be much since the numbers will likely be all the same hahaah

Yesterday's hearings before the San Diego City Council land use subcommittee went extremely well. The urban poultry issue joined other urban agriculture topics such as farmers' markets, bee keeping, composting, goats and urban rooftop garden structures. The speakers were very very interesting and is worth a watch.

Rachel In OB gave the presentation to the council and did a fantastic job. You can watch the city webcast of the presentations here:

Click on the video link for the July 20 hearing, the video will load in a new window in the upper left corner, which you can then expand. The urban ag presentation starts at 32:34, Rachel's presentation starts at 47:06.

Very heartening was at the end of the urban ag presentations (at 1:23:53), District 1 councilmember and chair of the land use committee Sherri Lightner proclaimed "I want chickens!"

Hello! Thank you so much to everyone working hard to get the local ordinance changed regarding the keeping of backyard chickens in the county.
I'm fairly new to this, only becoming interested 2 weeks ago when friends let my children pick up the eggs from their 6 hens while they were away.
Now we're spoiled with 2 weeks worth of fresh eggs that the kids picked themselves, plus their barred rocks are too adorable!
I'm still on the fence about whether or not to take the plunge (I think our property might even meet the requirements by a hair. I just have to get used to having pets that are not furry with paws)
but would be relieved if there was no question about the legality of having them.
So, best of luck on your efforts & thank you for working on behalf of all of us possible-future-chicken owners. I wish you much success!
