ok, how many of you fed your infant cereal in the formula at a few weeks old and what were the results? our pediatrician advised against giving the baby anything in her formula yet, but soooo many moms i talk to add just a little to their babies nighttime bottle. i have to go back to work in to weeks, so we are still working out the night sleep pattern. she is only six weeks old and has started to take 4-6 oz at a time now.

Pokey, Just get your little one set on a schedual... It will make your life SO much easier. My DD will be one on the 26th of this month... I didnt start giving her rice cereal until she was 8 weeks old... I am guessing that she was easy, because I had no problems with her sleeping through the night... Well at least until she started teething.. Thats when the fun REALLY starts.

ACK!!! Gotta go, Babys SCREAMING!!!

she does eat about every three hours, and does sleep most nights pretty well. but every one keeps telling me this will make her sleep at longer intervals, not necessarily put her to sleep. i can't complain, she cries very little and is a really good baby. i guess i am expecting too much too soon?

I used to give mine (I have 3) a little rice or oatmeal (1/2 teaspoon) in the formula at night when they were about 2 months old. I found it hard to make the nipple hole a "little" bit bigger so it didn't get clogged. Then the hole was too big and the baby would be wearing it. It didn't make much of a difference for me as far as sleeping better, but everyone has different experiences. Good Luck

I gave mine cereal a little earlier than the doctor advised. Hard to remember when though since they are now 13, 15, 17 but they all lived and are very healthy happy kids!

Try it for a night or two and see how she takes it, if you notice it helps then continue and if it doesn't then wait. No harm done trying!

Oh bless you for wanting opinions! I have a sister and a SIL that are strictly by the book moms. The book says they can't have xxx until 6 months or xxxxx until 1 year! They should not be around xxx or xxx! Well you know what for years nobody knew any of this and we are not extinct! Also, how is it that at and before 6 months xxx might kill them but at 6 months and 1 day it is no longer a threat?

Whoa! Sorry about the rant there, but that kind of parenting drives me crazy.

My sister now has 4 but when she was pregnant with her first, my Mom was trying to help her and she actually said, but that's wrong Mom the book says you have to do this!! Hello! You are here aren't you!! When I was pregnant she would follow me around saying you shouldn't be doing, eating, smelling that!

I fed my son cereal in his bottle 2 weeks after he came home. I started it at night and liked the results so much I eventually ended up putting it in all of his bottles. He was a underweight baby and it turned out to be great for him. I say try just a little to start with and see what works for her. Good luck.

Mine didn't get anything except breastmilk until they 5 1/2 to 6 months old. Then they started on baby food. Some of my grandkids are breastfed, others on formula....they too haven't had anything else until about 6 months old. My doctor always said their little digestive systems weren't ready for anything other than milk or formula until they're several months old.

Oh good Lord, you can't by a book when it comes to babies, they are ALL different. Mine would NOT sleep thru the night for squat and my mom told me to feed her. I had to gve her oatmeal because she had severe constipation issues and the ricce cereal WILL bind them up. I mixed her cereal with apples, pears, etc and she started sleeping. The poor thing was starving. So don't mind folks who tell you it will make them fat or whatever, if that baby is hungry, feed it!! You can start out mixing a little formula with the cereal before going to the baby food.

I'm not a mom yet (pregnant) but i plan to BF for a very long time and offer solids when my baby is individually ready for them. I also plan to BF as long as my baby needs to. They say doing that omits issues of needing to mash up food and all that stuff. I personally just want to be as natural as possible

I had 3 and the third got hardly any boughten baby food compared to the first....by the third one I was just grinding up what we had to eat and she ate that. Obviously if we were having spicy food she got something else, but she pretty much just ate what we did.
