So, my neighbor down the road about a half mile has a hummingbird feeder...

We have five, and I usually pull a couple and clean them then refill them, then a couple more the next day, and so on, so that they are always in a rotation, but I got behind and lost track, so I let them all run dry this afternoon so I could clean and refill them all...

I think the birds told my neighbor on me, lol

I’m guessing he has at least 25 hummingbirds down there right now

Well that sucks, they can be a bugger to catch. I always tie the live trap to some immovable object so they can't tip it over and get out.

A Gammo Whisper .177 pellet rifle is almost as powerful as a .22 and pretty easy to use and cock. They have different models and different pellets. The pointed pellets have the best penetration.

I was going to have a fun guessing game tonight but I'm sad now for your chickens...

A bird has built a nest in the chicken run on top of a 4x4 post, it's small enough to fit between the 1" x 2" welded wire. When I walk in it swoops down to the ground and runs across the chicken yard, under the gate and then under the garden shed (I'm assuming the last bit as it's pretty fast). The nest is a bit different as it is like an igloo with a side entrance. It's made from grass and stuff but no mud. The entrance is on the left.

So we've had a raccoon saga this last week finally concluded with a dead raccoon this morning. 2 hens dead because I was really late closing up coop, ran out when there was squawking and chased off a big coon. I wasn't proud to admit it was my fault. Lost my favorite hen and my least favorite hen. Raccoon kept coming back, tearing up stuff, digging under things, trying to get into coop and tiny coop, which it eventually tore open killing those orphan cockerels. They had an uncertain fate anyway, but it was war.
This monster tripped the traps, turned them over, stole the bait night after night. It repeatedly tried to get in coop, and tore tomatoes off the vines. Finally, I had traps wired together, staked to ground, clad in old metal license plates to prevent reaching in. I wired a slightly open can of sardines just past the trigger. And I caught him last night! We don't have a gun, so I called our neighbor who brought a pellet gun. It's a 0.177 caliber and it quickly killed our varmint. I did not know you could kill raccoons w an air gun. So we plan to get one.

I wrote about this today on centrachid's new thread about using predator carcasses to grow maggots for his chickens. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/converting-predator-carcasses-into-chick-feed.1324727/ I had asked him how he kills the raccoons, and saw that a lot of people also wanted to know. Subsequently there are a lot of posts about pellet guns instead of maggots.

So sorry you lost birds sue. I wish you'd have told us about it sooner. . we could've helped you out right here on our home thread.
I am not posting on that other thread. . but I do not understand why folks think pellet guns won't kill.
Mine is a rugar and it most definitely will kill most any varmant I need to off around here. .with the combination of the right pellet and good aim.
The only problem with the rugar I've had is getting a scope that will stay sighted in. We've gone through several. If you buy a scope make sure your getting one specifically for an air rifle. .it makes a difference.
I like having a scope on mine for the tree rats.
