calling any one from missouri

oh wow, you're in NC! I was wondering about that. When are they projecting hurricane to arrive?
edit news says landfall currently projected for next Friday?

We are only staying until Thursday morning weather permitting. So far we have had a good meal and walked in the surf for a bit. More fun tomorrow...

We went down to Ocracoke Island today via a pretty long ferry ride. When we got there a line of campers, motor homes and cars was several miles long to get on the ferry for the ride back to Hattaras... sure had me concerned but by the time we flagged down a couple walking down the street and got a lunch recommendation from them and ate some epicurean delight lunch and headed back to Kill Devil Hills the line was almost gone. I see that The Hyde County Board of Commissioners have ordered a mandatory evacuation of all visitors from Ocracoke Island in advance of Hurricane Dorian that will go into effect on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 5:00 a.m. I kind of figured that so the trip to Ocracoke had to be today. Looks like we will leave here a day early and leave Wednesday morning and take our time on the way home. I'm thinking of stopping in Maggie Valley for a night there is some cool little motels there. Oh and when we got back to the Ramada the parking lot was pretty empty... so finding a parking place was pretty easy.

The thing about evacuating for a hurricane is that nothing is certain. We lived in central FL for many years, and you didn't know for sure if the storm was coming to your area, or where to go if it did....One year, a hurricane was headed for south FL, and evacuees headed north to our area, then the track changed and it headed for us instead. We have gone to the west coast only to have the storm come there. If you wait until the last minute to leave, the highways, which cannot hold everyone at once, will be bumper to bumper. Many have had to go thru a hurricane in their vehicles as a result.
The news reports make it seem like a simple choice, you evacuate or you are foolish. It's not that simple. Maybe if you have water-front property, or live in a flood zone, but for the bulk of the population, it's just not cut and dried.

Yea I used to live on the Gulf coast in Mississippi and Louisiana and have been through many hurricanes and have left for some. Access roads are important, in the case of the Outer Banks there is a 50 mile stretch of 2 lane that would choke with more than a few cars. We are in Hickory NC tonight and going to do the Blue Ridge Parkway tomorrow and work our way to the best BBQ in the world in Horn Lake Mississippi the next day.

We are in Crossville TN tonight, had a nice ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway and saw 3 black bear cubs playing by the side of the road... couldn't stop long enough to get a photo... but pretty cool to see. Lots of people on bicycles on the BRP as well as motorcycles. Heading to Horn Lake MS in the morning for the best BBQ in the universe and the owner is the winningest woman in BBQ competition Melissa Cookston. I can't wait for the hot cracklins you get while you wait for your dinner.

I finally got last winters poop composted, it was wet and gummy and yucky. I kept adding sawdust and turning it. I think it's ready to bag up for future use and free up the bins.

I gotta say the thought of eating an earthworm is much stronger than worrying about the old fart with the pitchfork going under your feet and lifting you up to turn the compost. I have to turn it before I let them out for the day or I have this lol. There are 4 hens in that bin and 2 in the other one, as soon as I move to the other bin they all jump into it...
