All right, worm calling is in place lets see if I get to play on the Dune movie... I turned over a grass box added some compost to fill it up to the hardware cloth and then added some paper that went through the shredder then wet that down and added some expired cucumbers bits. So we will see if I need to add a thumper or not...

I don't know if it would be a good idea around your chickens or not. .but my grandma used to put coffee grounds in the garden to feed worms.

I've read that they will eat coffee grounds and I put them in the compost bin now. I think you need to limit the amount of coffee grounds but I'll put some in and mix it up. I need to get a photo of my setup if it works... hopefully I can call some worms to the surface for the hens to snack on.

Maybe a bit smaller than the sandworm...

Finally some decent temperatures to be outside. . but now it's probably going to rain all weekend.
Nothing much pretty around the yard to post. . everything is burnt up and sickly looking.
The crab apple tree is loaded down though. . maybe I'll get lucky and get to see some cedar wax wings stop by.

We got 1 1/4" of rain today, looks like some cooler temps tomorrow and for the next few days.

My two buddies showed up at 8am yesterday with chainsaws so we cut down the dead oaks I had... each one was interesting to make it fall where we wanted to and not fall on something we didn't want it to hit or get hung in another tree. We only had to cut one small sycamore that was live to get the last red oak felled. It came down so pretty right between several large white oaks and that was the only way to the ground short of laying it on the machine shop and that wasn't going to happen, the ole hoe was on that side making sure.

No trimming just felling... trim after they are on the ground and yes it is very dangerous work and not taken lightly by us. Felling dead trees is the most dangerous of all look at my serious face in my avatar lol.

It’s raining here... which is a good thing...

I was going to overseed the outer yard, but didn’t get to it before the rain so I’ll try tomorrow... since rain is predicted here for Sunday ...

I smashed a copperhead on the road last night... it’s that time of year when they like to come out after dark and warm on the gravel or concrete... so be on the lookout!

We have goldenrod, asters, late Boneset and some ironweed in bloom here... I only have a pic of the goldenrod and aster at the moment

I havn't seen a copperhead in years around here, used to see them on fence posts and in the road.
