KathyInMo, call me about the cages, I sent you a PM in case you didn't still have my number. I have been working 10 to 14 hour days in surgery the past week, right after getting home from our vacation on the east coast. so I've not been online much and today I'm catching up on laundry etc.

Kramer Farms, If Kathy doesn't buy them, I'll let you know. Where are you located? They would be perfect to exhibit pigeons.

I just listed my 5 younger mille fleur d'uccles (2 F 2 M and 1?) on Craigslist now that I have a hawk problem. I have to cut down on my numbers now that I have to keep them penned. So I'm keeping my porcelain d'uccles since they are better quality, and selling out of my Mille's which are all hatchery stock.

So, folks, do the hawks leave your Jersey Giants alone? I'm thinking of adding them to my 'free range' yard and keeping my d'uccles penned. Kathy, I wish you were NPIP so I could get some Jersey eggs from you

But if you really do have 200 chickens that would take a week to get them all tested

Anyhow, if anyone has any NPIP Jersey eggs here in MO, send me a PM or e-mail. I'm hoping if I have really BIG Teddy Bear chickens, they'll be ok for my kids and the hawk's won't try to eat them. Egg laying rate and show quality isn't that important, as long as they meet the breed standard for me.

It's so hard to show locally if you don't have a kid in 4H or FFA. The Cole county fair starting this week only allows 4H or FFA entries

Does anyone know if the MO state fair allows normal average adults to show their birds?

I'm in the Kansas City area. I am working on building a breeding flock of several of my favorite breeds. I'm a few years from being to the place I want to be but I'm proud of my foundation stock at least at the moment.

I'm working on:
Marans Black, Copper, Splash, Wheaten, Blue, Cuckoo
Light Sussex and maybe Coronation if I'm lucky
Delawares
Bantam Cochins (mixing colors not paying attention to any particular breed at moment, truth is I'm using them to start my hatching eggs.)
Le Fleche
Silver/Grey Dorkings

Hope to have in the future but they are VERY hard to come by:

Red Sussex
Red Dorking
Coronation Sussex

This is a LOT of work especially since even buying from very reputable lines there is so much variation in the coloring you have to hatch a LOT of chicks to just maintain your foundation. I really enjoy it though!

Right now I have a whole bunch of nice roosters for sale. I've got most of the ones that are listed above. I let them go pretty cheap. In the future, I will start showing my flocks and then, I will up the prices of these little gems. But for now, take advantage of me and get some good roosters for cheap.

Look forward to more conversation and also would like to find more folks in MO with these same birds. I'd like to work with others to perfect these breeds.

Hi Dave! I am near Harrisonville and I dont have any of the breeds you have. I have Austrolorps, and Brahmas - Light, Buff and one dark. I also have some mixed hens from a game rooster I used to have, and now his son is the leader of the Austrolorps. They are just for eggs and fun, no show chickens in this bunch. Nice to meet you!

Hey Everyone-

Haven't been on here in a while. My 9 year old son just had his first fair experience last night. Showed 4 of his birds- a Mottled Houdan, Light Brahma and a pair of BB Red bantams. He got 3 blue ribbons and a red one. But the best part was that he got reserve champion for showmanship. I was so proud.

Anyway, we knew this but the judge pointed out that his Light Brahma had too many black feathers on her back. She is supposed to be all white except neck and tail. Just curious if anyone has a light brahma that meets these qualities? Love the breed. We have 3 but from McMurray and not show quality. Does anyone know of a breeder that sells brahmas? I know most of us do this for fun but I gotta say that the whole fair thing was a blast.

I have an appointment with a poultry company to butcher my 11 older hens in the morning. My toddlers started laying this week and its time to lesson the load. They are good layers but will even be better fried chicken. Unlike our toddlers that all are beautiful and have personalities, my buffs and wyandottes do nothing for us so they gotta go.

Of course with 11 less girls, I have space to get a few new ones.
