Good morning everyone, I am very excited to find this thread. I am from Central MO, and have roughly 10 acres. I've been working on a large garden, and am building a large chicken coop. I will be getting my first set of chickens this coming spring, roughly 20 or so.

I want to get some Whiting True Blues for blue eggs, and then I will get some English Orpingtons, because I love how fluffy they are, and they are suppose to be very sweet birds, that taste decent. Then I will round out with a couple of a few different varieties just to get a feel for the different breeds. A couple of each of the following; Lakenvelder, Breese, Naked Neck, Silkie, and Ameraucanas. Giving myself a chance to try to see which ones work the best with my lifestyle and personality.

My Coop is designed with 2 sections, one for the smaller birds, and one side for the larger birds. I plan to have really big runs for both sides.

Ooooh, that will be a nice variety! I look forward to pictures when you get them…. Btw, you don’t have to separate sizes, I keep bantams and large breed together just fine. Or are you talking about ages? I do separate new youngsters at first.

I see, but I've already made the dividing wall in the coop. It had just read things about some of the bigger birds picking on smaller birds, or maybe it's the breed personalities. I did try to avoid the more aggressive breeds in my selection of breeds. But I also don't really want to free range them, and I know I will need a much taller fence for the flightier types of birds like the True Blues and the Lakenvelders. While the Orpingtons, and hopefully NN, when full grown should be able to stay behind a 4ft fence.

Being able to divide groups if you need to is useful. The best of both worlds would be a divider you could open up or take out.
