calling any one from missouri

I had 6 chicks hatch out in my incubator this past weekend. I had 1 more chick only make it halfway before it died. :hit 4 other eggs don't have any pips so I'm guessing they either didn't develop or died in shell.
I have a second incubator going, they should be hatching this coming weekend. :jumpy
I'm really happy with getting 6 from the first incubator because the digital readout wasn't working except for the temps and they were showing low 96.5 to 97.5 but the thermometer inside looked like it was at 99 or 100 so I was hoping for the best.

Cold and very blustery here today. We had snow flurries this morning, but they have stopped now.
One of the 6 chicks died on day 3 but the other 5 are doing great.
The second incubator of eggs seems to be a bust. I guess I'll go pick up a few extra chicks tonight on my way home. I checked last night but the farm & Home store was all sold out.

The last two days.

We are almost 2 1/2 months after winter solstice so I would expect laying to have resumed in full force by now but I'm sure your birds old enough to see their second winter had taken a break for a couple months.

24/7 free range and you are in Missouri? How do you protect from predation?
