I will be at Jacob's Cave. My husband asked if he could tag along and I tried to find an excuse for him NOT to go. I can see him trying to take the wind out of my sails. That may be his point. He thinks we have enough chickens. Is there truly such a thing? Of course not.
I will be bringing my two younger boys and a car full of cages.
I am now thinking about finding some hatching eggs if there are any at the swap meet. I am going to isolate my broody hen so that she cannot keep switching nests and let her hatch some out. I will let my middle son play target practice with my bator.
I don't know what kind of eggs I want. I want to get there and see what we like. I am really going for personality or something out of the ordinary as opposed to egg layers. I am still getting at least a dozen eggs a day.
Teddi- How do you get foot feathers to grow back? My porcelains both have broken feathers on their feet after this hard winter. Do I need to isolate them?
One more day of school and we are on Spring Break. Perfect time for the weather to turn to crap.
Just a suggestion- Could we all start signing our names to posts so we can refer to each other by name as opposed to just by our screen name?
Happy to see we have more new comers, Welocme all! Our chicken family just keeps growing and growing and growing!
Missy, Too bad about your incubator. I hope your broody hen does a better job for you.
And yes I think it is a good idea to sign our posts. It is much easier to respond to a name than a long screen name.
7 of my 11 remaining eggs hatched yesterday. I am going to give the last 4 one more day but I think they died for whatever reason.
I hatched all 5 of the black/split to lavender, 1 partridge and 1 red that she sent me.
Here is a picture of them.
I went to the feed store and couldn't resist buying some new chicks! CRAZY! As I just ordered another dozen eggs from wwmicasa1
She is sending me a dozen consisting of Mille Fleur, Buff Barred & Black Barred. I hope to actually hatch some of the milles out of this bacth. The last two batches I have gotten I didn't get any milles due to the storm ruining the one hatch and broken eggs on another hatch.
I hear wwmicasa1 has absolutely beautiful birds!
Here are some pics of the new babies I bought today. I know they are all bantam cochins but one looks to be a red and one a partridge and the light colored what I am not sure of.
Here are pics of all of them together. Aren't pictures great!
the show I was referring to is the missouri state poultry ass. show it is a double show. each bird is judged twice and can receive two sets of awards and placings. I went to the one in the fall and it was very fun but we have to do a girl scout thing that weekend. If anybody wants to enter you can until april 2nd. Just pm me and I can give you the show secretary's number.
