calling any one from missouri

...

I am looking at getting layers that handle our winters and summer heat/humidity. I love the Polish birds they are so funny, but everything says you need to be "experienced" to take care of them. Any suggestions?

We are not carpenters by any means. My husband is NOT a handyman of any kind. So, I was considering buying a kit, rather than make our own from scratch.

Thanks!

I like Jaerhons, Anconas, Penedesencas and Minorcas for both cold and heat. Trouble is all but the penes lay white eggs if that is an issue.
The roosters of the last 3 need a little comb protection in winter.

Kits are a pretty expensive option. Check out the coops on this site. A lot of easy step by step instructions from basic to awesome using many different approaches and materials.

There is also a breed selector section where you plug in different aspects and breed suggestions and particulars pop up for you. This really is a GREAT site for so many reasons!

When you know what you want there is a group on facebook, maybe several, of MO folks that you can approach for stock.

Hey all, I have been looking for a missouri thread..

First chick hatched!! The BO sitting on a full basket of mostly EE plus a half dozen BA and BA/BO eggs and the first has hatched! Woohoooo! I got first babies of the year!!!

Sounds great! BTW, the SLW trio you sold me the other day are doing great and haven't even stopped laying even with the stress of moving them to another coop. Can't wait for them to finish their molt and grow those really nice SLW feathers! Thanks again :)

Ahhh cool! That be you. They were steady layers - glad they didn't miss a beat for you! I thought the roo was really pretty. Pulled the RIR almost a month ago so the SLW was dominant in pen so chances are if you hatch out they will not be crossed without waiting a month to clear. The CCM roo is sure glad to have the girls to himself! He's just not as heavy bodied as the other boys were.

Tommorow get to primp the pen covers from the wind. Brutal! At least drying up some. Things to tweak around here - always is~!
