calling any one from missouri

Sedalia, mo?
Je
Welcome SandyDawn,

I'm in Jefferson City so it's nice to meet someone "close"

CG

Jeff city is only an hour from me, I'm in sedalia! I'm new to the site today. I have 6 chickens and 4 guineas. My 4 yr old daughter and I love our flock! Wondering if they is anyone else from sedalia?

I did do some googling :gig (sorry, that word still makes me chuckle) and read that the head on the males will also be a bit larger/longer than the females. This morning I heard my pearl talking all by HERself! So, two girls for sure. And I've deduced that the purple is indeed a male. I still haven't heard him talking, but his head is definitely bigger, his waddles are larger and his helmet is just a tad bigger. If I'm correct, I'm excited. I have a perfect, multicolored trio!
Awesome! I have 4 guineas and didn't know which are which so I will have to look for this tomorrow!

Howdy! :frow. What kind of chickens do you have? I get through Sedalia every now and then but it's about an hour and a half away.

I have 2 Cochins, 3 sex links, a barred rock rooster that we thought was a girl till recently;) and 4 guineas. They all are very friendly and will eat out of our hands and the rooster has been my 4 yr old's baby so he had been carried around constantly, the guineas are skittish even though we have had them since babies so they come up to us but don't want to be touched.

Hi Everyone, I have been around this board for awhile, but only in Missouri since August. I live on a 33 acre farm right outside Eldon about 30 miles from Jeff City. I have several chickens of all breeds, a RP turkey, 4 ducks and 3 Guinea. I have 4 new chicks and 6 in my incubator. I am waiting on some eggs to be shipped to me to put in my larger incubator that hubby gave me for Christmas. Glad to have found this group. Hope everyone is staying warm.

Hi I am just north of the Kansas City area, and it has been cold, the girls are enjoying their extra large coop so much they didn't even come out today! We got a heat lamp put in extra shavings and it stays about 35-40, don't want them to get too warm. Last winter we had only 3 chickens this year we have 15 hens, 4 roosters and a better setup, even a heated water bowl! Best investment ever. Good luck everyone it is extra work to keep the girls happy but it is worth it.

What town are you in? Yes I agree heated water is the best! Do u have all of your roosters in the same coop and they get along?

All 4 roosters live together they have since they were one day old, they were not sexed right, we have a Jersey Giant, a Americana, Blue Splash Wyandotte and a purely pet Polish Crested - guess who is the boss...The Polish! They like each other and even cuddle together. The Americana crowed at 2 1/2 Weeks of age, it was so cute. We call the Jersey Giant Diablo they have very dark and piercing eyes, almost human like. We have several breeds of hens, Wyandotte's, Sussex, Buff Orpington, Barred Plymouth Rocks, Jersey Giant, and Rhode Island Reds. Rhode Islands are my favorites and I think very good layers, love the large dark brown eggs. We rehomed two Cochin roosters, but my 14 year old daughter is attached to the other 4 roosters, and we are 4H chicken people who can not kill and eat them, it would have to be me and I just can't after raising them from one day old. Last year we started with 3, everyone with chickens knows it doesn't stop there....
