calling any one from missouri

Okay....I have 2 broodies that seem committed. This is a new thing for me as my ladies are only about 10-11 months old. I am wondering if any one any where near west St. Louis county has hatching eggs for sale. Will likely be hatching these for someone I know who lost the last of their chickens a couple of years ago, and wants them again. Will see if there is a special interest for this person and if they are ready when they get back from a family visit to MS. I am hoping someone nearby has some eggs, at this point I think mixed breed are okay as well (he has said he just wanted them for eggs and antics). Please let me know. I may set extras for sale as well. We'd love more, but our city has banned them now and our current flock is grandfathered....we will be moving within 5 years...lol.
I have a rooster (Australorp from Mr Duane Urch) with my mixed flock.........but..........I live just north of Kansas City
One of my broody hens is scheduled to hatch on the 7th the other on the 21st.

Have you tried Craigslist? I've seen several hatching eggs for sale listed on there over the past few weeks in the St Louis area. Some ads just say "fresh eggs", but often times they have fertile eggs as well.

Bad day here went to go to breakfast something got into pen and coop killed all but three heads bitten off some look liked they just dropped very sad day , any idea on what it might have been

I asked this same question on an organic farmer listserve here in the KC metro. Here are the answers I got:

Troque Farm in Buckner, MO
I've purchased from them twice and think they are great.

Thayer Feed in Thayer, KS

Soaring Eagle Farms, Edgerton, KS
Lee Quaintance
I hear they grow and grind their own grain

I am so sorry you lost your flock. How are the three survivors doing? Any injuries?
I'm guessing raccoon they are very sneaky and can get into places you couldn't imagine.

I'm sorry. That sucks! Unfortunately, there are a multitude of predators (both domestic and wild) that kill chickens. We have dogs on patrol on our property and that helps, but it only takes one chicken that likes to graze further out, and one sneaky fox to lose one.

I hope your others are ok.

Thanks for your concern., they are obviously traumatized but otherwise ok., one has a sore eye and a bite mark on her neck and some defensive wounds., going to try and start over but they were definitely a part of our family...

Yeah, our chickens are also our pets. Even with the dogs outside, we've had to "fort knox" our chicken coop. There are rocks and buried fence around the bottom perimeter of the entire area, as well as heavy chicken wire across the entire top. We shut the door at night and then put a heavy cinderblock up against the bottom to prevent digging, and/or yanking the door free. Don't give up, it just takes a little extra $$ to fortify coop.

Thanks, KC Plant Girl I have tried Troque Farm but they want $35.00/ 50Lb bag. I've been getting it from Thayer for $22.00/ 50Lb bag. I pickup on my way to Wichita. I go there once a month on business. Just looking for someone closer to KC. For the right price. $35.00 is TOO high.
