calling any one from missouri

I live out in the country about an hour and a half northwest of St. Louis. We raise six different breeds of chickens. We have various gardens, two horses and a pony. We are always busy and it is a lot of work. But we love our little homestead.

IMG_0463.JPG My 4 week old peeps out in the sunshine. Each had a foray into roaming around a bit but they kept trying to get back though the cage with their buddies. I finally let 2 out at a time and they were a bit more adventurous and went a few feet away. That is until the neighbor's cat swooped in from behind me. Hadn't seen him all day. Grabbed both chicks and tossed them back into the cage so no harm done.

They seem to like pecking around in the grass and dirt and flopping crazily in the sunshine. Cat is still in my yard several hours later. Bits of freedom will be in the backyard for now with the dogs in the house.

Not as much done on the coop as I had hoped as catching up on needed yard work and normal weekend chores took most of the day.

A cooler week is nice but sounds like many will have storms today and tomorrow. Hoping next weekend is more consistent progress on the coop and then off on Tuesday with no plans this year -- have to work Mon and Wed. Having to be at work the day after the 4th always messes with plans. Turns out bronchitis was slowing me down last week, too many forced breaks: doc on Monday and major meds so beginning to feel better. Chicks didn't eat the lettuce I cut yesterday and tossed in their cage: so weeds it is today. Lambs quarters, creeping Charlie, and some bolting kale tops.

Ours are the same....previous chicks loved lettuce. These like weeds...including dandelion greens and clover. I guess mine aren't chicks any more, they are 3 months, but the bantams still look like babies.

I'm live on a small hobby farm out in the country in northwest Missouri. We have 1 horse, 6 cows, 4 calves, around 18 hens, 2 roosters, 8 pullets, 8 cockerels, 7 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 sheep. There! I think I got everything! Oh! Forgot the 1 blue male crowntail Betta fish!

Crazy for Chickens, hope you are safe, watching the warnings up toward NW MO. Glad to meet you.

Karen, my kids, and all my animals have been that way. Grow up some like it later LOl , you never know what the future will bring.
