calling any one from missouri

So, it got cold again, only 34 degrees today and wet. Has anyone put their babies out yet? Mine are a month old now. They are starting to get a little cramped in their dog kennel, but doing ok. We still have to finish the chicken yard, but have electricity to the hen house installed so they could have a heat lamp. Actually, I really don't want them to go outside. I have so much fun visiting with them throughout the day and evening! Oh well.

Hello! I'm in the southeastern part of Missouri and I'm sure you're all familiar with the crazy weather! I have not put my babies outside yet but they are only a week old so I'm sure they have awhile to stay inside with me still yet! They are such cute little puff balls! I'm sure the bigger they get the more willing I'll be to see them go outside though, lol. But for now, they are my itty bitty puff ball babies!

I've got 11 four week olds with a broody and they were outside last night and made it just fine by the looks of it. I never would have left them out there without their mama though, it was too cold.

My chicks go into the brooder house which is an unheated, uninsulated storage shed the day they come out of the hatcher regardless of the weather. Normally I just hang 2 heat lamps and they really don't hang out under them that much. They don't spend much time under a broody either and she doesn't heat all the ambient air to 90 she just gives them a warm spot - same as the heat lamp does. If it's really cold like below 30 in the building I use a hover with 2 lamps in it. They feather out better and are healthier with the fresher air.

I have some SLW pullets...almost a month old. In my DINING ROOM!! YEP that's right.
I have a VERY sensitive nose! They get changed daily and yet still..
SO now I really want nice weather so they can go out in the yard..
But not yet as it keeps getting cold again here!

I like Heritage chickens for the most part
Chat more later I have a comedy show to go to.

I go to Kearney, Excelsior Springs and Richmond and have never seen a swap meet, just chick days. Got my babies from the guy who comes to Kearney Feed store.

For those in the area, the Silex poultry swap and auction is today. There are supposed to be lots of nice birds and other livestock. Among other things there are LaFleche and Javas coming.
There are always turkeys too. I think it is from 8-noon or so. Sorry I didn't post earlier.
