I like heritage breeds also.
I like chickens because they relax me....

What kinds do you keep?

Herman

RIght now I have SLW 1 hen 1 roo 3 pullets
Australorps 1 hen 3 roos
2 need a new home...
2 brown leghorn hens. They are my old ladies. one is almost 7!
1 New Hampshire red hen she is my baby!
2 red sex link hens
Some various roos I can't seem to let go
one is what we decided to call and Austracuana.
the roo was australorp and the hen was an aruacuana. ( lost her to a predator last spring.
About to incubate some Black copper marans. some Olive eggers and some BLue copper Marans in the next couple weeks
Probably more than I can keep if they all make it
What are you in to?

Sounds like your flock is a great viewing experience, I am looking forward to coffee with the chickens. My chicks are eight days old. ten Australorp, eight silver penciled wyandotte with 44 more to be hatched by Cackle Hatchery on June 3,,,15 silkie bantams, nine buff brahmas, five australorp, five white Jersey giant and five buff orpington. I am toying with the idea of a home made incubator if the silkies turn out not to be the broodies that I hope for. Way too many chickens to keep over the long run. Lowering the numbers will be a hard day. I have never had such variety in my flock. Last summer I raised partridge rocks and guineas.

I have alot! way to much.

I hatched out 4 Buff Brahma look like all pullets, Hatched out 3 silkies two white and one I think is blue?

I have 17 Blue,Black,Splash Jersey Giants from a Indiana breeder that I got as chicks born 3/17/13 I love the giants....

I hatched out 2 blue and 1 black Jersey Giant from eggs and have 6 eggs in incubator from same person

I made the mistake of taking the my girlfriend to ochies, TSC, and that place in Harrisonville. From there we have:
Two Barred Rocks suppose to be pullets but I have doults on one lol
Two Buff Orps same as rocks on sex
Two RIR's pullets
Four what was called Rainbow layers pullets
five SLW one cockeral and four pullets
oh yea 4 BBW turkeys and four ducks....

I think that's all.....Way to much.......Need to get rid of some soon...

Herman

I am also from Missouri, and love chickens. I do not have to space to have a lot of different breeds, so I am focusing on one breed, Jersey Giants. I have about a dozen all together, and 31 eggs in the bator. I live in town now, so I do not want to spend a lot of money on breeding pens right now, going to wait until I can get more land in the country. Have fun, and enjoy your birds, that is what it is all about.

Nice to "meet" you.
i need more pens.
I like to free range my girls but we have had too many predators so we can only let them wander when we are outside to watch.
I tried to stick to one or two breed. I just couldn't. Too many pretty birds out there.

Hey Herman? Is your SLW roo a mean guy?
Mine is so gorgeous and yet I dont like getting near him at all. He is a real Meanie!
I had someone tell me SLW are just mean..? So wondering.

My feelings exactly!
They are wonderful art in motion. I would like to have three of every color.

To young to tell yet, Will probably be getting rid of them along with some of the others to make room......The Jersey Giants will be my main chickens.....
