Can we get the garden hoses out now?

I'm new at planting seeds for my garden what should I start now inside? I have some tomato seeds, herb seeds, strawberry and peppers from Baker Seed here in Missouri. I have a rack with two 4' double grow bulbs that I used in the spare room to sprout wheat in last year, I'm thinking of trying that to get my seeds up and going inside. Last year I had four 2' grow bulbs on a rack and the seeds grew tall and skinny and fell over and died, anyone have a clue what happened?

So in a nutshell I'm looking for some planting advice for our part of the world.

Start those warm weather plants indoors! Tomatoes will never forgive you if they get below 40º.....
You can start lettuce, spinach, cabbage family outdoors....parsley too.

putting a fan on seedlings (very low just enough to hardly rustle anything) will make stems stronger and you may want to start with lights closer then move them slowly away to keep your plants from stretching too much ..
tomatoes and peppers are what i start super early indoors, I started my basil indoors early last year as well

still have 5ish weeks till average last frost in my area so i'm waiting another week or two.

I never would have thought of putting a fan on them but it makes sense in nature the wind blows often even down on their level.

So you try and start your tomatoes and peppers 3 weeks before the last frost indoors. Do you start them in a warmer place or just inside?

Got a flyer from Cackle Hatchery yesterday must be time to get cracking on getting the new coop done.

I dont personally use any kind of warming trey for the seeds or keep the room especially warm. I make little greenhouses to start my seeds using two clear rubber-made containers (top one flipped in top of the other) and when the sprouts are big enough i take the top one off and put a fan on them in front of the window. yeah 3-4 weeks before last frost. I got a little gardner planner thing from Bakers creek several years ago that had recommended seed starting dates. both tomatoes and peppers it says 4 weeks before frost and planting 3 weeks after the frost also says you should start cucumbers, summer squash and melons a week before last frost and then move them outside 2 weeks after frost. start leaf lettuce6 weeks before last frost and then plant out 3 weeks before last frost, start broccoli at 7- 8 weeks before frost and plant outdoors a week-2 before last frost and cabbage and cauliflower can be started indoors 10 weeks before average last frost and moved outdoors 4-5 weeks before last frost.

I didn't know what you were going on about this morning, as we get "hand-me-down" weather from those of you further west....but now that I'm about to swim out to the coop and see if the chickens have turned into ducks... I get it!

My sister is in CO getting a blizzard with 80 mph winds.... so I guess we shouldn't complain too much
