Mine were so big by the time I got the run fortified I had to entertain them during the day and let them have the whole garage but they never did go very far from the brooder. Looks like they were 5 weeks old when I moved them to the coop. Hopefully I'll be in that situation before they quit selling them this year. I still want to get some Cinnamon Queens... I need to get my head examined I think.

I moved the orphan chicks out! They have this cage in the hen/chicks' run. So far so good. Moonshine and her chicks were curious, and vice versa. Perhaps they can integrate eventually.
I dismantled the indoor brooder, they won't be coming back in.

So what do you all think---- I'm planning to move my indoor chicks outside to their little coop today, as they are getting bored and stinky in their 1' by 2' birdcage brooder. Low temps will be in the low 70's, highs in 90's. There will be no heat source but they have lots of feathers and from what I see, they don't really use the warming corner under the CHE bulb... Spitzhauben chick is about 3 weeks old, bantam may be several days older. With only 2 of them, tho, there isn't much warmth from huddling together.
Their coop is within the run with the hen and chicks and they will be able to interact thru wire mesh. I am really enjoying setting everything up for them, and looking forward to seeing the reactions and taking photos.
(I also posted this same question under the Spitzhauben thread,) I would like to hear about your experiences w moving your babies out....

I move ducks outside just as soon as they start getting feathers, as long as it stays above freezing and I just make sure they can't get too wet. So I would say yours will be perfectly fine this time of year.

Do the honey bees work your milkweed a lot?
