It's so hot the hens are eating ice cubes...

We have a lot of cucumbers from the garden, so I gave my hens cold cucumber to peck on......they love it!

When my DH and I first converted this old shed into a coop in 2015 (okay, he did almost everything), it was completely out in the open.

The next summer I put shade cloth on the south side to help with summer heat...

Since then, volunteer elm seedlings from those big trees behind it have sprouted, taken root, and now completely surround the coop and much of the run. It's very shady now, and comfortable even on a day like today. Yes, it's the same coop in there, behind the trees.
