WARM! 70º! This, our last warm day. Winter returns tomorrow.
A bunch of Barton county officials, from hospital, health dept, mayors, aldermen, commissioners, etc, today issued a statement warning people that Covid is exponentially rising here and urging us to heed all the CDC precautions.
So grateful to be isolated out here with our chickens............

Barton county is 77th in the state for new cases per thousand. Butler where I live is 32nd...

It's still cold here, our coldest week yet, with snow coming today. Yet our oldest hen, Speck, a 4 going on 5 yr old Sussex, laid an egg today! She stopped laying with all the other hens back in September, and has never before laid in the winter months. And this, close to the shortest day of the year! She's my only brown egg layer so I know it's from her.
I hereby drop all my assumptions about the subject of winter laying.
Here's her big egg next to one of the pullets' eggs.

Veronica ( one of the CQ pullets ) gave me another 91 gram sure to be a double today!

Sweet Pea ( 3.3 year old RIR ) started laying December 1st and has given me 8 eggs so far this month.

Bout froze this morning getting the fires going in the shops... 3 more sub freezing nights here.
