calling any one from missouri

Looks like more rain here... on another note I finally finished rebuilding my Delta 15" planer with the new insert cutter head. Most of the time spend waiting on parts as once it was disassembled I could see what needed to be replaced. Just glad I could find them all as she is not the youngest girl at the dance. Did a few test cuts just before calling it a day an it was worth all the effort for sure.

Nelida worked her last day yesterday... we'll see how retirement goes lol.

Happy New Year---the fireworks here at midnight were in the wood stove. Hedge apple wood sparks a lot.

Then came the ice storm, and snow....here's how it looks this morning

Our chickens didn't like coming outdoors in the small amt of snow. The ice and wet snow weighed down the bird netting over the runs, causing it to sag a LOT. I had to go out there over and over and knock snow thru the netting to relieve the weight. There are a few rips that need repair today.
Here's a pic of our daughter and dogs out on a walk yesterday....

We have electric again! ... it was only off for about 22 hours... hats off to all the hard working folks that battle the nasty weather to get Missouri’s rural electric back up and running during times like this.

Oh wow, what is your heat/cooking source? Were you able to stay warm?
We didn't lose electric here, tho we lost internet for a few hours, it comes via towers.

We used a generator to run a small space heater, and the fridge, and microwave as needed... and one lamp and candles for light.

We have a propane furnace...but it requires electric for the blower. Everything else is electric. I’ll probably wire it so that I can easily switch it over to run off the generator for next time.

Our daughter in Hood River OR runs almost everything on natural gas, cooking, heat, hot water.... An accident at the gas terminal shut off gas in 2 counties for 5 days. They had to cook Christmas dinner on the bbq grill outside. We did a zoom Christmas w them, and they were huddled around a space heater.
We are very dependent on electric here, except for the wood stove which mainly heats one room.
It would be good to have more off the grid capabilities.

Christmas on the BBQ sounds like one to remember for sure!

We actually had a large wood furnace until I gave it to my neighbor for his shop a couple months ago, lol

I go back and forth on what to do, but a whole house generator would be my dream solution... I think?

We actually spent much of the day in the car riding around the back roads in some of the nearby national forest looking at the ice and snow covered landscape, and enjoying the car’s heat, lol

fortunately the roads were not bad, so we just decided to ‘make lemonade out of lemons’ so to speak.
