Hello Missourians!

Looking to relocate to an area that is more homesteader friendly... and not so flipping cold.....

I have been researching the Ozarks region, as this area is very similar to the ‘drift less’ area of WI, and I love this type of terrain.... what can you tell me about this region? How bad is the humidity? What are the manufacturing industries? How hot does it get in that area compared to the flatter portions of the state? How bad is the snow/ice in the winter?

I apologize for the 20 questions, but I would prefer to hear from the folks that live in the state instead of trying to find all of this info online..... 😊
I lived in Boone County for 30 years. It is just North of the Ozark region. The Ozark is kind of rough so you might be able to Homestead well there. You have to watch for the drug labs. You could also go to the South end of the Ozark Lake region around Lebanon Missouri. It is a beautiful area. Avoid Branson glitzy schmaltzy ads.

Thank you so much!

The ‘drift less’ area on WI is the rough triangle of land that is defined from the points of Madison, LaCrosse, and Platville. The majority of that are is very hilly with woods and many little streams..... just beautiful.

I have been looking at land in the Ava and surrounding areas. Branson reminds me of Wisconsin Dells: tourist trap... ;) I do not need to be close to all of that. School districts are not as issue as we are empty nesters. My hubs thinks he will have issues with the humidity, but we have hot and humid days in WI too

We have issues with the drug manufacturing here as well; I suspect it is a systemic problem the whole country faces. Would be nice to know which areas have more problems with it than others.

A little snow is fine: our current situation.... with an additional 4”

Ava will certainly be hilly and wooded, you might look along Hwy 106 that's pretty hilly as well and one of our favorite places to ride the motorcycle. North of Hwy 60 will be a tad bit cooler than Ava... IIRC. Also 19 and 21 North of Hwy 60 are hilly and pretty.

Just signed up for our second covid shot. It's going to be much better than the first time. You have to make an appointment by the half hour and only 150 people per half hour can come in the BOB (Bid Orange Building or Black River Coliseum) at a time so much less waiting this time.

Temperature is down to 17°F and seems to be falling... Coup Deux is 27.5°F.

It is great that you guys can get the vaccine.
I signed up a couple weeks ago. I'm in the over 65 category but the wife is under. I haven't heard anything yet and with the shortages of vaccines, I don't expect a call any time soon.

My husband and I have both signed up as well. We are in the under 65 category but both have health issues and I’m an essential worker. We are still waiting for our call too.
I was working this weekend in the 9 degree temperatures. I work in the warehouse part of a factory ( with no heat in our area). I wore my insulated coveralls and my coat, hat and scarf. Can’t wear gloves because of what I do. But I was just happy I had the coveralls!

I just saw long range forecast for this coming weekend with lows at -7F.
It has been a while since we got that low.
The lowest it ever got at my house was -19F several years ago.

It was -36 somewhere in Minnesota this morning. I can't imagine what it will be this weekend.
I see our forecast here in SWMO calls for a high of 9º on Sunday and a low of 1º. We have at least 10 days of frigid temps.

I signed us up at various locations, pharmacies, 2 health depts, 3 hospitals and the VA. Then I heard a clinic was taking appointments and got in that day, last week. Since then I got calls from 3 of the above saying they have the vaccine. Just ignore the negative news about shortages. It is all changing, and MO is quietly mobilizing, we’re getting more and more. Expect a call! I’m sure you’ll get your vaccinations.
