No the scarecrow is not for hawks, it’s for the little songbirds that steal feed! It might help deter hawks, but they cannot get into the run. That's cute, lol. Do you think it has been helping? Is it mainly for hawks?

I have two BCMs that I got from Mt Healthy back in April. They laid a few eggs for me late this fall before the days got real short, I would guess at about age 5 months. They look about like yours, but one's neck is a little brighter than the other. They are pretty big girls. Their eggs were a deep, dark chocolate brown, very pretty. Yours will probably be about the same! Enjoy!Hey, anyone have Black Copper Marans? I got this girl from Rural King in Warrenton. She was a surprise as she was completely mislabeled as a Saphire Olive Egger. I'm not sure what's desirable for BCM hens (coloration wise). She seems to have a brown neck instead of copper. I see so much variation when I Google it, lol. Also, at what age do they typically start laying? How dark do you think her eggs will be? I know it won't be super dark like from a breeder that's been working on color. She's about 15 weeks old and came from Hoover's Hatchery. Her name is Bootsie. Thanks!
Thank you for the info. She's the sweetest girl with the little noises she makes at us, but she's very, very shy! She will come and jump on my lap if her big brothers aren't around to bully her! lol I can't wait for her eggs and warmer weather!I have two BCMs that I got from Mt Healthy back in April. As far as adults, we have a Rhode Island Red, a Production Red, a Golden Comet, an Easter Egger, a Barred Rock, and an Ameraucana rooster. We hatched 1 egg each last fall from the Rhode Island Red, Golden Comet, Barred Rock and the one rooster. The one little female chick was a single hatch in October so we got her 2 buddies from Rural King -one olive egger(WelsummerXCream Legbar), and one BCM. I got 2 out of 3 boys from our hatching! So now I have 3 boys and 8 girls. No ptoblem! What other breeds do you have?
