calling any one from missouri

I've got an 8 yr old Specked Sussex. I don't think she lays anymore, but for the past couple years I couldn't be sure who in that flock laid what.
I could only tell last summer that if I got 4 eggs then everyone laid one and that only happened a few times last year.

A friend's wife told him once that wow the hens laid 2 eggs today! Well she forgot to check the day before.

Well, if you forget for a day this week, they'll be extra hard and cracked.
Friends of mine have had hens as old as 10 and 14 still laying the occasional egg. I never had hens that old but I believe them.
It is important to remember that pullets hatch with more follicles in their single functioning ovary than they can ever lay eggs in a lifetime. There are all sorts of reasons laying diminishes but it isn't that there aren't more in the assembly line.

-10 here this morning. Yesterday the chickens seemed kind of optimistic when the sun came out. Especially the younger flock of bantam EE's, who spent a lot of time out in the run where I had cleared away the snow and put shavings down for them. High temp was 14.
In the 4" of snow, I was able to clear walking paths with a leaf blower. This was my Valentine's Day present. Some women want flowers or candy, I wanted a leaf blower. It's fun to use.

That's great Sue!
J bought me the dewalt (battery power) weed wacker for christmas a few years ago. Everyone thought that was just awful.
I thought it was about the best present I ever got! 🤣

You two are gals after my own heart! Years ago I got myself a Craftsman worm-drive circular saw (this was back when I was still doing stuff, lol)... worm drive because the blade is on the left of the mechanism so you can see what you are cutting if you are right handed, as I am. It was so fun to walk into the Sears store tool section and have the sales clerk hide a double take when he asked my then-DH, can I help you, sir? And I replied, yes, I'd like to look at a worm-drive circular saw, please. 😆

In the saw department... I just steal the mans stuff and use it when I need one.
Except for I do have a little dewalt reciprocating saw. That comes in handy from time to time. 😁
