Hi everyone. We got our new roo. I have to say he is one of the ugliest birds I have ever seen. He's a brabanter. Hope he's not offended by that but my son loves him. He has been settling in to his new kingdom quite nicely. I did watch him go at it with one of my silver -laced hens. They looked to be having a cock fight. Both had their neck feathers up pecking and attacking each other. This is quite comical to watch as I thought only roos would do this, not hens. He makes the strangest sounds but so far he has not crowed before 6 am so I love him for that.

Of ocurse, after we got him home, I discovered that he is not recognized by the APA so my son cannot show him, which was the point. Now he has decided to show two of our babies, probably the mottled houdan or the light brahma. They will be 5 months old by fair time and that is the minimum age. But I do love having a roo back to look over the hens.

Only chicken people would understand this-

Tonight I got home from a long day and sat in the back yard watching all the chickens chasing bugs, scratching in the dirt, making all those great sounds and I thought that there was no place I would rather be. Funny how these little guys can be so entertaining and relaxing.
