calling any one from missouri

Thought I'd see if ya'll are still around! I've been pretty busy so I haven't stopped in much...

Need to rad up on flock intergration as I'm planning on getting a second Roo. This one is a RIR to go with my girls. Not sure how Colonel will adjust to shraing his girls but I'm sure it will work.

Hope ya'll are doing good in 2011!

Does anyone have any fertile EE eggs? I live in Lebanon and I want to hatch some. Mine are 9 months old and have yet to lay an egg to my knowledge. I am willing to travel some to get them. I think it is too cold to ship right now. Please let me know if you have any. Thank you.

Had a very unpleasant surprise when I got home last night! My favorite Polish, Mendy, was laying on the ground dead.

Not sure what caused it but this morning I went out to check on them and stir the bedding. One of the RIR's was just sitting there in a nesting box. I saw some red stuff on the shavings so I'm thinking Coccidosis?? She also has red poo on her foot. She actually let me pick her up which is a first for ANY of my RIR's. I did not raise them from babies so they are not a freindly towards us like the polish. Anyway, I'm on here so a moment to find out what I need to treat her and the rest of the flock

so my DH can go buy it.

Sure hope I don't lose my whole flock! I do have her isolated in my garage so if it's something else I hope to stop the spreading.

Oh, AND I'm dealing with headlice on our oldest child. She had them at her mom's house over that last month and obviously not all the eggs were pulled out...

Hope you all have a great day!!!! I know I will!! Keeping my spirits up because I know this too shall pass.

I hope you get it figured out and can save your flock.
It is hard when you have a problem in the flock and I have had mine too.
Keep us posted.

I hope your hatch is a huge success foxinthehenhouse. I hatched my first one this past spring and it was so exciting! Before I had the first batch hatched I had a second incubator and a hatcher going! I didn't keep many of the chicks and lost a couple of them this winter. I think the ones that are left are going to be strong.

Keep us posted!

What is it about this time of year that makes us want to hatch eggs? And to make matters worse- I got a McMurray Hatchery catalog in the mail today:p. Can you say kid in a candy store? I love gardening catalogs this time of year but the chicken catalogs beat them hands down.

So I discovered that my son's incubator definitely has issues. After buying eggs that did not hatch, we put 3 of our eggs in to hatch and got nothin'. While this is a new bator, we used the exact same one from a friend and had 100% hatch. So I went to the hardware store and bought a thermometer/hygrometer(humidity) to see if there is a problem. I am going to turn on the bator and watch the humidity reading for a while. That's the only thing I can think it is. I know its a cheap bator but there must be an obvious problem. Wish me luck.

Still searching for silkie chicks if anyone hears of any. We want blues and blacks. Phoenixs are doing well. LOVE to hear the baby cheap-cheaps.

Missy

Good luck with the incubating!!! I'm ready to do that too but obviously I have other issues to deal with...

So, the RIR I have isolated had yellowish white stuff coming out her and guess what... It was an egg without a shell!!!

Any idea what that means??? Not enough calcium???

I still think I'm going to treat the cocci, unless that's a bad idea if they don't have it. Any thoughts?

I had to order the Corrid online because Orschelen told my husband that was for cows and the only place we could get it was from a vet. All the vets around here are closed on Saturdays. So I'm hoping to get it Tuesday since it's coming from AL, it might make it.

never tell the farm supply stores what you want stuff for. they almost wont sell it to you if it isnt specifically for poultry.

had 1 lady try to tell me heat lamps were for bottle babies, not for keeping my birds warm. fortunatly she only works a register now.

They said they didn't sell it! I don't believe it but I wasn't there. Oh, well... I'm geting a bottle that will last for a while so if I need to share with anyone close enough I can.
