calling any one from missouri

Well, the RIR died. The rest of the flock is acting ok still. I have corrid on order so hoepfully I get it before anyone else is too sick to survive. I went to the farm store and checked on Sulmet since I heard that might work too. Don't have it. They did have corrid for $90 a gallon... I can't afford that.

Sorry to hear about your RIR. I have gotten to the point that if a bird gets sick, I know it will die. I have yet to save one. Not that I don't try, I just prepare myself and my kids for the worst.

Battened down the hatches in the coop for the coming snow. Food, water, straw, shavings, etc. all resupplied. The chickens have been out all day enjoying the yard. I figured they won't come out for a month once the snow hits so they better enjoy it while they can.

The hygrometer says my incubator is setting at 28% humidity. That's way too low. I have a bowl of water in it too. I am going to add a wet wash cloth to see if that helps. I guess this could explain why we are not hatching. The temperature is good though.

never tell the farm supply stores what you want stuff for. they almost wont sell it to you if it isnt specifically for poultry.

had 1 lady try to tell me heat lamps were for bottle babies, not for keeping my birds warm. fortunatly she only works a register now.

They said they didn't sell it! I don't believe it but I wasn't there. Oh, well... I'm geting a bottle that will last for a while so if I need to share with anyone close enough I can.

Our local Orscheln will tell you the same thing but sell it to you. I guess it depends on the manager. Hmmmm

Hey Missy, this is too funny! I have been online searching for hatching egss all morning getting the hatching itch! I was thinking that I should be getting a catalog soon too! LOL
I am looking for mottled bantam cochin eggs if anyone knows of any... I just want a dozen or less.

I may have to buy a new larger bator this year. My buddy accross the road has one that holds about 600 eggs, wish it was mine.

The last sick bird I had I decided to cull instead of going through the pain and hearache of trying to save her. It was a hard decision.

So sorry for you losses misschickenlittle

. sojab314 I have eggs but I haven't tested the fertility, so I don't know if I would be your best bet. I also will be selling my roosters soon. I will try to put up pics soon. I have 2 mixes that are huge and beautiful, I am thinking a leghorn mix. I also have 4 that I will have to call EE's. They were all born 6/1/10.
I ordered and hatched eggs from a BYCer. She sold me Amerecauna's and threw in a few Olive Eggers( FCM and Ameracauna's) for me. She had all the eggs marked for me, but being a newbie I didn't keep track of them. I would say that one is an OE because he has feathered feet. I have one that is barred and has the muffs and beard. As I said, I will try to put up pics soon if anyone is interested.
I just cleaned out the pen. Put all new straw down for the chickies. Just waiting for the snow. The weatherman here said 4 inches by Wednesday. Geez! Did I mention.....I hate winter hahaha.
Everyone take care and be careful in the snow! Oh and good luck with everyone's hatches.

Well the wash cloth seems to have done the trick. The humidity is up to 50%. I will watch it for a day or so and try a couple of my girls eggs' again.

SuziQ- I have to disagree. I love snow. I absolutely love to be outside with my boys playing in the snow. Bring it on. How nice it would be if the weathermen UNDERestimated the snow amount for a change. Usually I get my hopes up and we get nothin. Did I mention that I am a teacher so I love snow days.

I wish you luck with your hatching Missy! I could give you some eggs to hatch too if you want some. I have some bantam mottled cochins that have been laying.

The snow is coming down. I have been home sick all day just watching it fall and it is very pretty. I hear the roads are getting slick around here anyway.

No school tomorrow-yeah! The snow is beautiful. I am excited to have the day off tomorrow to go sledding with my boys, even if I need a chiropractor the next day.
