I'm near Aurora, about half an hour west of springfield off the 60... in your general direction. and I work in bolivar, north of springfield.

yes, lets make a bulk order.

also, there's https://www.esteshatchery.com in springfield.

when are you looking to start chicks?
are you interested in anything besides the cornish crosses?

That hatchery is cheaper. I was thinking I want to start around April, I drive a school bus and want to get 2 sets doen before school starts again. I was thinkig I wanted 25 birds each time. I would be splitting this with a friend. I dont think I wnat any others, but a different friend is looking for about 2 doz RIR. I might want more by then. I have to build a bigger coop first. My husband is having a fit. He wants me to get rid of all mine already and have not even gotten an egg yet. LOL I am not sure what to feed them or anything yet, just getting an idea for the spring.

"save money" is relative to what you'd be buying instead...

if you're comparing to chicken in bulk pack at walmart, yeah, raising your own cornish cross is more expensive. if you're talking about buying premium, free-range or organic chicken, where you know exactly what they've been fed, it's cheaper to raise your own.

there's a couple good threads on here somewhere that look at the costs on home-grown vs. premium purchased.

let me know what you decide.

If you ever looked at how Tyson treats chickens, you would never buy from them again. I know they are not the only ones, but just an example.
