Calling Buff Orpington Experts

I have a small flock of buff orpingtons and I hope to expand it and up it's quality but I have a couple of questions. I know the body type I want and leg color and temperment but I am not sure about the general buff color.

What should I be aiming for light buff or darker buff color?

Also if a rooster gets a little white in his tail after his third molt but never had any before that should he still be used for breeding?

Pictures of my flock are on my website and I only have one offspring from my flock at the moment but no pictures of her I see if I can get one of her and post it for ya'lls opinions.

You should be shooting for a Middle to deep buff color. The body type should be a well rounded bird nice and plum and you know about temperment and white leg color. Also I doubt the white in the rooster will effect anything as I think that is probably just an age thing but try to shoot for the buffest birds possible.

an important thing for the buff color is that the feathers are buff all the way to the skin, check, for some buff orps have whiter parts to the feathers closer to the skin and these are not good to use for breeding. Get the birds that have an even tone to the feathers all the way to the skin.

Also, sometimes some feathers will lighten if the birds are in the sun a lot,,,maybe that is what is going on with the tail,,,,,I dont know about the white feathre in the tail but I dont think I would breed it

You want a all over even buff color. The hen on my orpington page on my website I think is a good example. Make sure the buff color goes to the down, if it is white you will not want to use that bird for breeding if you have better. Also if there is some freckling in the tail (light) this is good for keeping the rich color. Also as far as body type you want deep and broad. Just imagine a gravy boat with feathers LOL. Okay I can talk forever, but this is what I've learned from many different Buff Orpington breeders. Good Luck
