So I've posted in a few places, wondering if anyone wants to go in on an order...really I want a couple of buff cochins, and it looks like I won't win that battle unless I get 25 chickens!!!! Really I want 2 or 3, if that fails then I want Buff Orpingtons...my DH says it would just be easier to go on mypetchickens, but looking at this thread, I would say we could get what we want...Angie has said she will go in...anyone else interested?
I think that someone suggested yesterday that a "you've got mail" icon would be a great idea...it sure would beat the "check your pm" Thank you Wendy...I pm'd you and Sara...Of course this might bum Angie out!!!
Who me?? Cheryl, by all means, if Sara and Wendy are willing to go with you on your chicky adventures, I'll gladly step aside.
I wanted to make sure you were able to get chicks, and I am always willing to add a few more birds, but I'm not in dire straights for any either. I'm sure I'll be putting in a chick order this year either way, lol I always do.
Malbri, I will definitely do that. What kind of hens do you think you'd like to have? I'm already getting some chicks from Jody, Araucanas and buff Silkies, the buffs are going to my friend in NH...she's a buff Silkie freak, lol. I've been eying Ideal lately, I think I might want to try some standard blue Cochins. They are so darned cute and I hear nothing but good things about them.
I dunno. I dont even know how many I want.
I only have experience with one kind.
I dont mean to sound like a newb, but do you need different coops for different breeds, because I think an assortment would be nice.
I wish I could like get experience with other chickens, but there isnt really a way.....
Well, Malbri, you can start by looking on Feathersite.com , they have every chicken breed imaginable. Henderson Chicken chart has a list of birds that are readily available at most hatcheries. It gives you specs on each breed such as temperament, size and egg laying ability. If you see something you like, then you can check out Ideal or any other hatchery and see if it's available. People here on BYC can also offer their opinions on breeds, of course everyone has their favorites, so there will be a lot of opinions.
**Edited to add......yes, you can mix and match breeds. I always have.
the only time you'd need to separate out a certain breed is if you wanted to breed them and have the chicks purebred.
