Are the drakes of certain breeds a bit calmer - or at least more defined about breeding season - than others?

I see people all through here talking about how Runners seem to have no mating season, it's just non-stop. How about Pekins, Rouens, Appleyards?

We have Appleyards, and we keep one drake to five hens. He (Angus) can be a sweetie, but he needs to be managed during breeding season (~April-August). He will usually pick on one or two girls each year, and we need to either supervise him when he is with those girls or keep them separate (we do both). Sometimes the duck he picks on will change mid-season. This year for example, he just started picking on Amelia because (we guess) she just started molting. He's now mostly getting along with Martha who he was terrorizing earlier in the spring/summer (she was broody and sat on eggs for a month, and now she has a new confidence). And he's been a flat out turd with Lucy-Goose all season this year.

Angus has his own "special fort" (aka "mancave" or "the hole" depending on how we are feeling about him at the moment), which is in the run. He goes in there either alone or with his best girl Mouse (up to her) at night this time of year. During the day, they have two pastures adjacent to the run, and we mix them up so that the girls he's picking on are separated from him along with a rotation of the other girls. They all free range supervised at least twice a day for about an hour each time.

Hope that helps.
