Camper for a coop?

Great Idea!!!!!!

I am converting two 20' travel trailers that I got for free off of Craigslist to my new coops. I figured what the hay....they were free and already insulated and wired. I have gutted them completely and re-sheeted with hardboard, framed in for coop area and left my self some space to work in and for storage and brooders. I also left the bathroom areas for running water and washing the occasional poohy behind. Fixed the leaky roofs and off I go.

I can house approx 40 birds per trailer, plus brooder areas.

The best thing is...........they were FREE!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost INSTANT COOPIFICATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Davaroo. I figured out what you meant not long before you posted. I guess I'd just never seen the acronym before.

I am going to look at the camper tomorrow morning and if it will work we'll pick it up over the weekend. I'll be sure to post pics of the conversion from camper to coop.

Thanks for that, I love Cochins.

That is crazy, too many chooks and all the same color. I like variety in my flock, but I guess to each his own.

My new camper coop is currently sitting on sawhorses, waiting for the ground to dry up enough to put it where it will live. I can't build the new run fence or do the conversion work until it's placed. I'm really hoping for a streak of good weather, but Mother Nature might have other ideas.

The difference between redneck and hippie gets blurred again...

What's "redneck" in Tennessee (where I'm from) is "green" living out here in Oregon.

We have goats in our front yard. They're our lawn mowers.
I drew the line at husband using an old shopping cart to feed them, at least in front of the house.

Your welcome. I know what you mean about the weather, at least we've had a couple of days of nice weather. This weekend I think we're suppose to get more rain, it's suppose to be a warm rain. My husband and I are in the process of building my new coop

I'm hoping we can get a lot done before this storm shows up. I would love to see pictures of your camper-coop when it's done.

The way I understand it is that a redneck is someone who works the fields everyday and has burned his neck from looking down at the field all day. Absolutely nothing wrong with that!

I suppose it is like blue collar/white collar. I think the color added to the collar is to keep the "ring around the collar" from showing.

(why am I writing this??? I need some sleep)

There are no rednecks in Minnesota....just hard working Americans who know how to work the soil....oh, I take that back...I think there are some at the State Capital and a few sent to D.C.
Using a camper shell is a great idea and so is a junk 4 door car behind the barn...as lonf as it is behind the barn. The trunk and engine compartment make great nesting area's....LOL Folks!
Happy Hatch'en

The camper top works great I've been using one for about two years now as a transition pen after leaving the brooder. I had some cinder blocks left from another project to raise it about 3ft. off the ground. On the end where the lift is at I installed a hinged wooden gate I could get in to clean it out. You can put heavy wire over the window openings so they can be opened to give great cross ventilation in the summer. I would definetly build another if I could find a free top. Redneck was a phrase coined by someone afraid of work I'm convinced.
