(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am completely new to chickens! My mama had a few after I moved out but I never had to take care of them. They were gifts from my brother who picked 1 hen and 3 roosters! Needless to say they were all very mean ;)

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

None, but the plan is to start our flock in the spring when we are settled on our new farm.

(3) What breeds do you have?

I plan to have RIRs.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?

Google

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

Homesteading, photography, hiking/camping, reading.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I’m married to Paul. We have two sons: Tyler (9) and Jacob (1.) No other pets but we plan to raise some goats eventually and the boys get to pick out their dog this summer.

Welcome! Very nice to meet you. I'm fairly new to chickens myself. Just started raising them this past August. I bought a few books about it but the best and most useful information I've received is from the good people here on BYC. I look forward to learmninhg with you!

Welcome!

Congratulations on the new farm. How exciting! Adding some feathered family members.

I recommend a visit to the Learning Centre; lots of good tips there: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center

and if your farm does not already have a coop, some great coop ideas here if you do not already have any: https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/2/Coops

Finally, you might want to say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy BYC. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends
